Ranking Keyword Video Tutorial
By Vic on May 19, 2008 in Video Tutorials
After a disturbing email and Skype call I felt the need to stop real quick and make this tutorial as it may help folks like the BU member I talked today. You folks may have tons of sites and tons of traffic but you are not converting that traffic to money so it is important to look at your stats and find those gems that you almost rank and work those keywords to translate the traffic to money.

Nice vid. Is it just me or is there a little problem with sound mid way through?
Nah Justin just heard it and it is fucked up bigtime I might need to redoit or just make another video with another example.
Vic I have a question about Bookmarking Demon. I did everything you said to do in your step by step vid but when it comes to hitting bookmark what should it do? When I did it just opened up this box that gave me the option to close or copy. It never said anything inside the box or did anything . Did it bookmark or is something messed up? I just thought it would take some time to do so and it did nothing. Anyway let me know!
Thanks,
Jason
Vic,
If you find that they are finding you through keywords you do not have, should you then add those terms and then get backlinks for those terms?
I also thought that HTML was for the anchor. Thanks for clarifying that!
Only the buying terms you maybe ranking low, lets say you are on page 2 on a buying term work the hell out of it quickly think about this it is easier to work a keyword you already rank then one brand new for those keywords that are not buying terms why worry about them why get traffic just for traffic
Yeah I knew some of you where caught with the html thing
The sound for me is fine in the beginning, goes down to almost nothing in the middle, and back to normal in the end. You must really be saying some important stuff there in the middle that you don’t want us to hear. LOL
Man I might have to redo the video I did not know the sound got twisted I just watched it and it gets to a point you can not hear it.
Yeah the sound was uneven for me – it came back to normal after your wife interupted you
This is a fantastic video but I am torn: everytime I buy a new tool I loose a week playing with it and trying to figure out what I am doing with it. Just to clarify: SEOElite will tell me what KW competitors are ranking for and Domaindashboard will tell me how my SERPS are for my KW’s Im targetting?
Its unclear in the sales page whether domain dashboard will actually work on a non-cpanel host – Dreamhost – I know the multiple domain setup won’t – but that’ not a big deal to me : I would like to see how I am doing on my own KW ranking efforts though and it seems the best tool for this?
domain dashboard tells you what keywords people are finding you and also tells you how you are ranking in Google, MSN and Yahoo.
SEOElite tells you what your competition for the keyword you are working looks like in other words it tells you not only how many inlinks but also it shows you what PR and what type of anchors it also shows you what keyword density he has on the post if you notice on the video I have the position with no anchors but with site authority and keyword density in other words keyword stuffing I took that position.
domain dashboard only works with cPanel this is crucial and I have said it multiple times it is important for you folks to move to a cPanel host all the tools of this nature are for cPanel if this is a business for you folks it is way important to move to a cPanle host.
Domain Dashboard just makes everything simple especially when you have tons of sites when you only have 3 or 4 what the heck manually is ok but when the business turns serious you need something to show you easy where you are at so you can spend the time in the important things like building and getting links.
Thanks for the clarification, Vic. Now I just need to go watch it at least a dozen times…LOL!
I will make another example as the sound just got fucked on this tutorial so I hope you folks hear and see it better I think this tutorial is a must because it deals with what you have right now that you may not know you do.
I am curious Vic if your a total newbie when it comes to BANS what do you say are the must haves for software. I currently have Micro Niche Finder and BANS. I have been having to use micro niche finder to help find my niches for now but what would be the next thing you would purchase in order. I can afford to get a couple now but will have to wait on the rest. But from your view point what would the best for me now?
Oh by the way I love this blog since you actually put out how to do something and not just keep everyone going in a complete circle. Keep it up!
Jason
Try the Niche Store Writer that Vic was talking about last week.
Cool post Vic got some more nuggets from you. Putting into practice what I’ve learned so is the anchor text here done as you describe it?
I really don’t understand how you can say that “free BANS template” is a buying keyword. It is clearly searched by the freebie hunters.
Strauss read my blog and watch my videos and just maybe you will learn what a “buying keyword” is.
Yeah yeah yeah blah blah blah. A buying keyword is a keyword that when it is typed into a search engine, the visitor wants to BUY something, he is holding his credit card in his hand.
I don’t think “free BANS template” qualifies for that. “Buy BANS template” is a buying keyword. “Free BANS template” means that the visitor already has BANS and wants to find a FREE template.
Vic said he wanted to rank for “free BANS templates” in hope to get more people to this blog and learn them the proper way to work with BANS and make money online. He never said that free BANS template was a buying keyword, lame-ass.
Emiel, I think you’d better watch the video again. 6 minutes into it Vic says “this would be considered a buying keyword term”. We are trying to understand what exactly Vic means by this.
I really want to fully understand keywords because I’m also getting quite a lot of clicks for my BANS sites but not very good conversions. Only one of my sites is converting really well and getting ACRUs.
There is no need to call anyone a lame-ass – that is Vic’s job!
I do remember some years ago when I tried my hand at Adwords that we should remove the word “free” because it doesn’t convert. However I have had a think about what you are saying.
1. Someone who is looking for a free BANS template is new to using BANS and will be eager to find out ways they can make proper money from it. They have already spent money on BANS so chances are they will also spend money on keyword tools and Hosting etc.
2. There is a link to BU in the footer of the template so this will help get free links for this blog which in turn helps with the serps.
Yes April, the word “free” can kill a PPC campaign, if you don’t enter it as a negative keyword. As for your other 2 points, I have to disagree with you.
#1 This is like me having a weight loss website and then optimizing one page for “free weight loss pill”, and then hoping that my visitors will buy a beauty care product, because maybe they need it.
#2 The discussion is about buying keywords, so that’s totally irrelevant. We aren’t discussing link building.
haha Vic, its been a while since you lashed out at someone like that. I thought you were getting soft. I’m still looking forward to the next John Chow bashing though.
Owned!
Haha I love vic. Nice video.. lol
Vic,
I’m glad you didn’t hold anything back on this reply. Good one!

I had trouble hearing the middle part of the video even with the volume up max, I think you were talking about Bookmarking Demon.
Vic – Great video. It helps build on what you already taught us. The sound for me wasn’t an issue, since the meat of your post was in the begining.
Some gems in that video, well done..
Quick question on aged domains – I bought some 8 – 10 yr domains which had lots of backlinks in google and yahoo. Some links point to pages which I don’t have in my BANS site structure – HOWEVER, if I click one one of those links (to a page I don’t have), up pops my BANS site. It seems the BANS software creates the page on the fly.
Do these “non existent” pages atill count as far as the SE’s are concerned?
Where did you find 8-10 yr old domains? Can you usually get good deals on them?
I have a few MMS sites, similar to BANS, and your info and site is great.
Looking forward to seeing this once volume issue is fixed.
Joe what I will do is make another with a different example to keep giving you folks more keyword options.
Vic,
I bought a 3 year old domain from freshdrop.net a few days ago. I think it’s tailormade for BANS because the domain name is the same as the ebay product I’m targeting. Thing is, I don’t have BANS yet or a keyword research tool. I’m going to buy BANS because I like the concept and you wouldn’t push it so hard if weren’t profitable, but are we spinning our wheels without a good keyword research tool?
Many thanks for all the great tutorials.
Rick
Rick the domain i got for BANS was 2 years old only ad a few back links but it has helped with traffic alot, you will get people from keywords you never have thought of, then you can go get the keywords and make a store page from them.
Keyword research is critical but honestly buying BANS is more important is is the best set and forget money site making tool out there. If you have a strong niche go for it, just start with 3 store pages that start with the word “cheap” and that will help because it is a buying keyword. once you save up some money get a keyword research system and then go kill some niches.
Polishbear said it perfect if you need to choose between BANS and KeywordElite man it is a no brainer get BANS once you make some good cash you re-invest in your needed tools.

I’m using Keyword Elite for my keyword research for my BANS sites.
The keywords I’m selecting are based upon the amount of searches VS results, as well as the KEI value etc.
Basically, I’m trying to choose the keywords which have lots of people looking for stuff, but there isnt anything out there for them.
I’m then using these keywords as my store pages.
My question is, is what I’m doing the correct method?
I look for KW that are buying terms even if they have tons of competition my only real competition is position one so that is what I work on SEO Elite.
Great post again and the keyword reference is really good.. now if I could ever get as good as you picking them out but since I bought Keyword Elite it is helping just alot to learn wowow… thanks Vic
Candy it is one of those deals the more you do it the better you will get, it is like learning to ride a bike hard as hell to get the balance in the begginign but once you get it you never forget to do it
Do you try and put the keyword into the search query of the BANS store page or do you try to write the out on the page as much as you can?
For example, if the keyword phrase is “cheap item for sale” do you put “cheap item for sale” in the search query box, or would you just put “item”?
Steven really do not understand what you mean if you look at the BANS tutorial it shows you how I do it with BANS.
Sorry I wasn’t very clear in my post Vic. I’ll try again.
Basically, I’m asking about what to do when the keyword you selected is put into the search query box of the BANS store, but the product wont show up on the page.
For example, lets say my keyword is a long tail like your “cheap paintball gun”. It’s a really good one, so I want to use it.
However, when I put that keyword into the search query box of the BANS store page, the product won’t show up on the page when I view it.
This is the problem that I’m having. I’m trying to use buying term keywords, buy when the keyword is something like “buy paintball” or “cheap paintball” the painball items will not show up on the page unless I just type in “paintball gun” in the search query box.
I’m wondering if what I type into the search query box of the store page will affect people being able to find my store page? Does it even matter?
Vic, you were talking about the $7 dollar secret book on the channel a minute ago. If you like that idea you got to check out “the ultimate super tip”. I found this on Griz site. Here’s the link, hope you dont mind: http://www.supertips.com/ultimate/x/?id=1053
I never leave links here but since you were talking about the $7 book you gotta check this one out. IT’s free but just by the example of the book itself it’s a brilliant lesson in viral marketing. It’s the same thing with getting paid by paypal.
If you have the time to check it out tell me what you think of it and the whole idea of it.
The video started out pretty good but then at about 6 minutes and 15 seconds the audio volume dropped by half and then it just got worse so I couldn’t listen at all.
It was right at the point where you video was getting interesting.
