Bookmarking Demon Review and Scuttle Sites

by Vic on March 24, 2008

YC had a question today about Bookmarking Demon that I felt I need to explain a bit more then just a simple comment. It is very important to know what your limitations with Bookmarking Demon are and how to take full advantage. Also what are the risk you are willing to make with Bookmarking Demon.

Hi Vic, great and I mean GREAT site! But will you resume posting articles instead of videos? My 'listening' English kinda sucks to tell you the truth and sometimes (when I'm at work) I cannot watch videos :(

Thanks again, you helped me a lot since I discovered blogger unleashed :)

    Hola Lola,

lo que pasa es que se me hace mucho mas facil hacer los videos. Yo no tengo mucho tiempo y se me hace tan facil simplemente prender la camara y hacer el video. Estoy pensando un dia hacer esto pero para los hispanos ;)

    Thanks Vic!

Great explanation and I know I really needed it. I've been using BMD a little over a week and have had to do a lot of reading and trial and error. Scuttle sites were the big question for me.

    Thanks again,

    - Thom

Thanks for these BMD videos, Vic.

I bought BMD recently and have been testing out what it can do. Your videos are much more useful than the materials that come with it (I was disappointed with those).

Like Thom, I'm a bit at sea with the scuttle sites. I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I ran a search on BMD, copied the results over to the multiscuttle tab and ran a registration. I ended up with about 30 successful registrations. Should I be looking for more? Should I be registering manually?

Thanks again, Vic. Keep up the good work.

What I will do is actually do an actual bmd run so you folks see how I do it.

What I can't understand about Scuttle sites is how they do us any good. I looked at a bunch of them and only one didn't have the nofollow tag.

April I just checked my list and found about 40% are dofollow but I will make a vlog on an actual run and will explain a bit better on the nofollow rule ;) but do not worry much about that.

Hey Vic, thanks very much for making a video to answer my questions! It's a lot clearer now although the one thing I have done before is separate scuttle runs with the same URLs with different IDs although they were a couple of weeks apart. I used to hide for both legit and scuttle runs but now only for the former, and I will slice up my scuttle runs in batches of different sites then. I don't have as many sites as you do but close to three digits as well so I was looking for a way to cut down on the more tedious part of setting up the URLs. Will experiment with that tip you suggested about hiding. :)

    Thanks a lot buddy!

Yeah if you are close to the 3 digits you should od like I do it just speeds up the process way much faster.

I'm trying to pay attention, but maybe I missed something. Doing a BMD run, why are we doing del.icio.us, furl and others that have nofollow? Just for the links? Is there value in a nofollow?

I don't know the truth of the matter, but it seems unlikely to me that Google would completely ignore all that juicy data about which sites people are using.

    Vic,

BMD is so much more powerful than I ever thought. Can't believe I had it sitting on the self so long.

For some reason I seem to have trouble creating new accounts. They all say unsuccessful. Is that because I don't use a proxy?

In your vLog, you mentioned "hiding your links" a couple times. Can you explain what that means? Is that where you set up multiple accounts so your submissions don't appear all from the same account?

    Vic-
One more question….I have what Court calls a "flagship blog". I am not trying to make money with it, but I still want to be #1 on Google.

Would you still recommend Bookmarking Demon instead of Article Marketing? I can't spend the time and money on both.

Do you use Article Marketing? You have never mentioned it, and conversely Court has never mentioned Bookmarking Demon. Thoughts?

I am also wondering about what hiding your links means. Sounds important to me. It would be awesome to watch you do a BMD run on video! Really, I think it would be cool if you did a few vids like that. Like how to set up a MFA site or blog.

Your explanations are better than everyone else's yet for a dumbass like me it's even better to see it done…the vic way.

By the way vic, my ctr's have gone up since I've made my content more unreadable. Unbelievable how that works.

Thanks again for all of your work vic

To hide your links basically all you are doing is adding in other sites that don't belong to you. So you add in one of your own URLs but you also add in the likes of youtube and techcrunch so that it's not obvious what links are yours.

Vic talks about this on one of the previous vids about bookmarking.

    Dividends,

Yep, lets say you are trying to put in one link from one site of yours.

You will put that one link, either to the main page, or a specific page with about 4 or 5 links from other sites. Those sites can be anything. If you have enough sites, I have put in a couple of my other site links in with them.

If not, then throw in things like firefox.com or nfl.com or mulletsgalore.com, etc. etc. etc.

    Hope that helps!

    hi nicheblogging,

after i bought it and installed and read the pitiful help section, it started to make sense.
I created accounts on the bookmarking sites.

I put 7 links from 5 of my sites, 5 links from digg and technorati. i also added this link for good measure (the thought did occur that maybe their tracking all of vic's link and banning those users!).

its been 20 mins and its only 40% complete. after thats done, i'll look at the scuttle stuff.

one more question i have is that on yahoo search, link :www.livingoffdividends.com and link:livingoffdividends.com have a substantially different number of links. how do I get change this?

If I am following your question correctly, what you want to do is make it so that the search sites see only one site instead of 2. They read http://www.yoursite.com and yoursite.com as 2 separate sites now, and so are ranking them differnetly.

the easiest (relatively) way to do this is to create an htaccess page that redirects one to the other. There are many tutorials out there how to do this. It lives at your root level.

Also, open a google webmaster tools account and pick your preferred domain in it.

I like it with the www becuase i find internet noobs always type it in and it looks better on business cards.

htaccess is a little tricky as sometimes it is a hidden file, and you have to tell your os to view them. This is much trickier on a Mac.

Lots of other cool htaccess tips too. it is how they make Wordpress do teh pretty SEO titles.
