If you’re using addon domains on hostgator (yes, I know I should switch to a reseller account, but I didn’t get to that yet) you SHOULDN’T change the permissions.
I did, and it started throwing errors … but when I just do a simple upload without chmods, it works fine.

Just one issue that in my opinion brings a lot of confusion.
When you configurate the “Set Up Store” and you entered the #2, I understand
you entered two categories #1 and #382, right?
Then for every individual page you customize it to your liking (cat#382, SEO,
etc).
I’m asking this because the other day I was setting up my first store and when I
opened the menus I got all these unrelated sections inside that category and
went to the admin section and closed them one by one, That was areal bitch!
Let’s say I opened a site on “shirts” so I chose the general clothing cat. When
I opened the menus I had all those pants, bags, skirts, etc.
After I created my niche pages then I had a targeted site.
Don’t know if my explanation is clear, but I’d appreciate a further
clarification on that point, if possible.

no I only used one category the 382 but by using option 2 it leaves me open to use any other category I find fit for the site. This is why I do not create sites now with site wide categories now I am changing even the first stores I built with the side wide categories.
Vic, man, excuse me for being thick headed, but let me see if I understand the process:
1.- Setup: Enter 2 for any further CAT additions in the future.
2.- Content Pages: broad long tail keyword (for index) in “Site Wide Search Query”.
3.- Store Pages: Long tail keyword (specific product) in “Site Wide Search
Query”.
4.- Here’s where I get messed up. In my case I have to go and close all the unrelated Store pages loaded in BANS when the broad CAT DB was created, otherwise, when you open the menus, all those unrelated items do appear.
In your example CAT 382, do you close the unrelated categories (golf, fitness, etc.), do you delete them, or none of the above?(In the video I see none!).
Is it that maybe I’m over complicating? In step #1, when you enter 2, you leave it at that and don’t enter the broad cat (382) there but later in the content and store pages?
Something else. About the skeleton directory (a huge time saver):
Skeleton directory
The skeleton directory is the directory template that is used to create all new
accounts - any files that are placed in the skeleton directory are automatically
copied into new accounts. For example, if you placed an index.html file in the
/public_html folder in your skeleton directory, all new accounts will have that
automatically include that file.
To display the skeleton directory path:
1.
Click on the Skeleton Directory link in the Account Functions menu.
2.
The skeleton directory path is now displayed.
/home/username/cpanel3-skel
where username is your main reseller account. This is under your home directory, so you can upload any files there.

Hi Vic:
I just thought you might like to know that there is a minor issue with BANS‘ content areas.
In case your Hosting doesn’t have “magic quotes” for PHP enabled, the BANS‘ will drop without warning any content you enter that contains apostrophes. If you have apostrophes in your content, you need to escape them with backslashes (\). And you need to re-enter the backslashes every time you modify that content.
Since magic-quotes are being deprecated anyhow (i.e., your host shouldn’t enable them anymore because they pose security issues …), this will probably become a greater and greater issue until the BANS programmers update the code.

Hopefully this will help people frustrated that their content keeps on disappearing.

I find that bug pretty sloppy and frustrating and hope it gets fixed soon. I was pretty disappointed at the one guy sloughing it off as a Hosting problem. That said, it’s not hard to imagine why somebody might get frustrated trying to help there, since there’s a lot of whiny noobs in new of help that can’t be assed to actually describe their problem.

Hypothetically speaking, I had a purloined copy of the BANS script.
After seeing what the script did though, I bought it. Along with the support, it’s worth more than $100. I’m a developer too (corporate) and I think we should give credit where credit is due.
Do the right thing if you didn’t buy your copy of the script — support the developers who wrote it, and buy it. You’ll feel better about yourself, and you’ll get some good support as a bonus.
Thanks for the tutorial. I’ve been creating BANS with a ton of pages and was wondering how it is you only spend a maximum of 4 hours per site. I need to start focusing on just a few keywords.
Someone asked a question concerning trademark issues and domains a few vlog posts back, and I was wondering the same thing:
Can we somehow be penalized of some sort for using a brand in a domain?
For example, rachelraycookbooks dot com or something like that.
Remember all I want for you folks to do is get those 100 or what you can afford up as soon as possible so indexing and aging starts you can always go back and keep adding keywords and pages which is what you should do.
The name thing is delicate it really is. And I would never tell you guys to something that could get you in trouble yes if you use a registered name in a domain it could bring trouble but also you have to take it into context will it hurt the image of the company are you promoting more sales for that company?
The problem is that many companies don’t want to be associated with eBay at all. I used to make a really nice income by selling a particular brand on ebay until they decided that people were selling the items too cheap. Even although I was getting more than their recommended retail price they stopped selling to me too.
I have bought some domains with brands in it but will not do so in future just in case. If we do get “caught” then we can always buy a new domain and do a redirect.
Plus many of the items are used and manufactures do not care on recycled sales they want to have new sales so they make more money. Like I said man it is a delicate subject no doubt.

Vic, you created a BANS site with only 2 store pages. Does it hurt you to create the 2 store pages based on your keywords and also have store pages based on the subcategories that BANS automatically creates?

Steve all my first sites I created like you said later on I started the way I showed on the video the highest ranking are all the ones that I created like in the video to many people with the same categories and link structure so G probably gave duplicate content penalties on all those sites so now I am changing one by one

Lissie this will give you a faster up site and once all the sites are up and you have done your link runs for each then you can go back and keep geeting more specific on keywords and by then the site has already started getting aged and more authority
Anyone having this problem with BANS?
I created a store page for a specific product but when link clicked it says “no products matching your query” even though I know there are in the same category??? I also can’t seem to find answer in BANS forum.
Yes it happens it is Ebay related try this move one category up and put the keyword in the search box and see if it works if not do this in the contact form send me the category and the keyword to see if I can replicate the same thing and try to find a work around.

If you all don’t have the money for a resellers account, check this out.
I have been using this tip similar to justin’s skeleton folder idea lately and it is working fine, and saving upload time from FileZilla.
Just create a folder in your c-panel system someplace, upload the BANS files to it.
Now, when you want to access them and create a new site, just use your “site explorer” or what ever built in file system you have in your c-panel to copy the files in. This only takes about 1 minute to do, at the most.
Elliot man please do a step by step this could also help tons on people that are learning. Now I know you just did a step by step but I mean with graphics so it is easier to follow.
I’m not Elliott, and this isn’t my tutorial … but I think this explains the process pretty clearly. I started doing it yesterday, and was able to put up three stores without a problem. Just follow along carefully, and do exactly what they say for the first one or two … then it becomes second-nature.

Wow Vic. This was a great video. As you have come to know about me, I love to ask questions. I feel that it is my duty to suck every last bit of knowledge out of you.
1. Auto-generated BANS Category Pages
I read your answer to Steve above about keeping the categories that ebay and BANS can automatically build for you. Do you believe that it is a serious problem to leave these category pages in there? I have many of these pages indexed and I am getting some traffic to them. Do you think if I leave them up that they will prevent me from getting more keyword focused pages added later?
To be clear, most of the times I do go in and change each of these autogenerated pages to have a more focused keyword.
2. BANS Software
I noticed that you only uploaded one set of BANS files to your server. I have been loading the EPN v3.0 and the EPN v3.0 Update. Is the EPN v3.0 Update not needed any more?
My one complaint about BANS is that they do not communicate their releases very well.
3. Capital Letters for Keywords
Do you ever worry about the capitalization of the first letters of you keywords?
For example, if you want to focus on survival gear, does it matter if your content or keyword tags use capital letters for the first letters, like “Survival Gear”? Few people type capital letters into google search. Does google recognize capitalization?

My BANS pages each has 3 keywords in the title as follow:

It was simple before, now it’s really simple.
One part in the video you corrected the Page URL to all lower case. Now I know why! It screws up the entire page if it’s not all lower case. You didn’t actually say it because I think you were talking about something else. Don’t think, just do! No explaining necessary.
I’ve noticed that if your store page search is specific enough you may not even need a category number. Saving a step or two.

Is there a particular reason that you leave the spaces in the URL? It throws the %20 into all your spaces and looks odd. I usually go with dashes instead of spaces.

what are the advantages of having the reseller account.? Or another way of looking at it, what crappy things will happen to you if you put them on a regular package that allows unlimited Hosting.
I just renewed my account with my old Hosting company and pointed 25 new domains to it. Before I go any further and start setting up the sites, i want to see what bad things can befall me.
All tips welcome.
If you get no traffic nothing but if you do get traffic to one site you whole account will be suspended for resources and all those sweet 25 sites will be offline

While doing niche research this morning, I checked out a blog,(Day Job Nuker), that ranked in the top 10 for the keyword. While studying I noticed he had a post stating how a BANS site can be bought for $53 using your own affiliate link. Is that allowed? Sounds like you could get yourself in trouble and possibly get banned.
Not trying to be a cheap bastard, just gathering information. If it’s not recommended by you,Grizzly, or Court I don’t act on it anyway.

No ClcikBank allows you to buy the product it says it on there own TOS so no you wil not get in trouble but you still have to pay the full amount but you will get a check when you reach the limits for the difference. And no it is not being a cheap bastard some people are just dead broke you know I understand. In my case if a blogger does a really good review of a product no hype I buy it through there link if the scammed me I can always get a refund but I have the resources to do that I know some people are dead broke

ok, I’m frustrated … I’ve just spent another 6+ hours of my life trying, again, to make BANS work.
I found a good used domain name, that’s already getting traffic. I just need to get the BANS site to work.
Here’s my problem …
None of the page links in the sidebar are recognized when you click on them. As best I can tell, when they’re clicked on, they just end up 404, and revert to the main page. Oddly, when I use the search box at the top, I can get different products. But, with the links on the side, nothing.
I’ve watched your video several times (it’s actually the reason I decided to give this one more try). I’ve tried this several different ways. With Category 2, and different search terms, exactly as shown in the video. I’ve uninstalled, and reloaded clean with new databases 3 times now … always the same result.
Currently the site is just set up with the Main ebay category. I didn’t redo any of the content yet (because I figure I’ll have to start over yet again).
Anyhow, even at risk of revealing the niche, here is the site: applemacfreak dot com
If anybody has any clue why the navigation doesn’t work, I would be most appreciative of your assistance. (this is frustrating mainly because I can usually figure out stuff eventually, but this program has me at my wits end)

OK I am not expert - but when I click on one of your menus e.g. vintage mac : it does NOT revert to the home page - the url changes appropriatly but Iagree the search appears not to be working correctly. Have you tried creating a custom store pages: say do a search for “macbook air” - does that work? If you can get that to work then I think you are on the way to fixing the problem. Also I found on the setup I had to change box 7 to “curl” from “normal” - dont know why but then all the results appeared -worth a go! Good luck

Yes, I’ve it several different ways. The “standard” installation that’s there now was actually my last resort. I’ve done individual store pages focused on specific term (pink macbook) as demonstrated in Vic video.
Specific terms work if I make them for the home page. But never for an individual store page.
I even tried making a search string http://mysite . com /search/my term and putting that in the sidebar … but no joy.
However, if you use the drop down menu at the top, and hit search, even if you don’t put anything in the box, it brings you to the appropriate page.
Oh yea, I’ve tried both normal and curl … in all 3 configurations I’ve tried.

are you with GODaddy Hosting? If so I believe you’ll get some info on resolving this on the BANS forum.
Also try unchecking “cloak affiliate link” might help.
Todd Skype me if need be I will trouble shoot your install to find out if it is a Hosting related issue or just a bad install the important thing is to get the site up as you said it is pre-owned domains with traffic and we sure do not want you to lose that traffic.
Todd, sounds like a similar problem I had the very first time. For me, it had to do with Hosting - I was on Godaddy earlier.
This is what I did. Go to your .htaccess file in the directory where you installed BANS and add this:
RewriteBase /

Ok, after a bit of google searching, I think I found the problem …
Ironically enough (given the name of the domain I’m currently having problems with), it appears that my problem stems from the fact that I’m using a Mac, which hides the .htaccess file for some reason … so, it never got uploaded.
It all makes perfect sense now (sort of). I’ll try to fix it later when I get home from work.

Todd, if you’re on hostgator there should be no need to change the .htaccess file. You should be fine once you’ve uploaded it. Good luck!

Just needed to find that .htaccess file and get it into the directory. lol, literally two months of frustration over something as simple as figuring out how to find a hidden file. I really love computers sometimes.

Now I can get to work actually optimizing these sites. I’ve got 3 more good domains that are already getting traffic, that would work quite well with ebay (in fact they’ve already made sales using the ebay widget on a wordpress setup) … gotta love the godaddy $5 closeouts.
Given my “fun” with BANS, I think I’m going to wait a week or two before I get BMD and attempt to make it work on my old windows laptop.

Todd I was just talking to Don on Skype about how pre-owned domains are all about instant gratification man buying authority is awesome. And no doubt with all the work you have it sure cuts time of building if you can afford a pre-owned and as you said for 5 dollars and the 10 dollars for the registration man 15 dollars can sure speed up the process

lol, yea that apple domain has a couple of links from PR 3/4 sites/posts … unfortunately the anchor text is the mostly the old owners name … but, you take what you can get I guess.
Like you said, it’s almost worth the 15 bucks just to witness a site start getting hits, and ebay clicks w/in hours of being put up … even while the program running it is broken … and before I’ve even begun pimping a single link to the site myself
On another note, I read the post over on Court’s site. Your “goal” for BU is completely understandable … I’m not putting in anywhere near the time that you are, but I still feel your pain. You’ll be missed, but definitely remembered and appreciated.

On another note..
when adding content to a BANS site, are we aiming for posts like on a regular blog (ie 400word posts) ? or little paragraph snipets mainly containing keywords?
Also do you usually have products showing on the BANS home page? Do directories usually except these obvious affiliate sites ?
Look at this site of mine the index and this is the basic outlay that is working best for me http://sportsxoom.com/ look at the small paragraph in the top and then a few more paragraphs at the bottom the top short so they see the products fast and click over to ebay.
You can add content like that, but not as important as getting links. Keyword stuffed it as well, and put it in the lower portion like Vic showed in the vid.
The products help as additional content as well. Put them on every page. Whether you have it on the front page or not, it is still obvious that it is a store site.
Directories - some accept, some don’t. Just submit to as many as you can over time. Those that accept, great! Those that don’t, nevermind.
Vic, on your BANS sites do you put the campaign id on every page? Also if you do do you set up a unique ID campaign for each page for tacking purposes? For instance, if you have 3 pages on BANS you would set up 3 campaign ids.
I am talking about the Seller ID(s) on each page.
I do not use that field
The seller ID is for pulling items from an Ebay store, if I’m not mistaken.
Yeah if you sell stuff on Ebay you can sell your items with BANS

Back to work on my BANS!
I finally got BANS over the weekend and am in the middle of the slow conversion from a wordpress ebay affiliate blog to BANS for my domains. The slow part is switching the nameservers
While working on my 2nd BANS, I pulled up my Google Analytics keyword information, and put keywords people had used to get to my site from Google into the site’s keywords. I didn’t mention those keywords anywhere in my content, but since I’m pulling from the same categories with the same searches, my ebay results should have those keywords peppered through there as well.
Since I have almost a month on all my ebay blogs worth of keywords, I’m gonna do this for everyone to see if it helps.
Whoa. I’ll be the first to admit I’m wrong here, but are you sure you want to throw away all the work you did on your WP sites?
I mean, they’re already built and established. Worst-case scenario, create BANS in separate directories and have your index.html do a 301 redirect to the BANS directories. Better might be to add keyword anchored links that direct people (and spiders) to your BANS stores, to your existing WP entries and pages.
And then BMD not to your WP blog, but to your site’s BANS directories.
Again, I admit that I know next to nothing about optimizing BANS, but … you might want to wait and hear some more experienced voices weigh in on this.
In the meantime, don’t do anything non-reversible.
Heh, they were scraper sites off ebay using ebay’s RSS to supply products. Maybe 30 minutes work each. I switched two sites and I’m already getting clicks from those new BANS.

Hi, I am noticing that BANS sites that I get comment links for, form high PR blogs get indexed almost instantly and rank better than other BANS that I havent. I know Vic you recomended this, but i didnt realize that it makes a huge difference. Now I am also incorporating a few PR7 blogs in my runs!
Just to make sure…the quick indexing and better ranking occurs because of the many blog links right? Or is it something different, a chance occurance?
Link quality can be achieved much better with comments then the rest of the options I teach but with the mass bulk link tools I teach you folks to use it is easier to get anchored links.
People are milking that high PR comment cow pretty hard. I’ve seen some dofollow blogs getting kind of annoyed this practice and are starting to Akismet comments with links to BANS sites, Griz’s Asia’h contest and others sites they don’t like.
If they don’t want to give out free followed links to everyone they should just disable the plugin or use one that gives them a greater degree of control.
Yeah Frank it is so fucking idiotic the way I look at it is as long as I provide a solid relevant comment I should get an anchored link with what ever I wan as long as it does not disrespect the blog owner but then again I have said it tons of times and will keep repeating it most bloggers are self centered bitches and out right fucking idiots
