Google Page Rank Update and Local Niches
But first I want to explain something. A few days ago I was reading a post and on a comment someone mentioned how funny it was that peeps like us that wrote about making money online and niches never actually showed our niches. Well now I will tell you why.
A few days ago when the data centers started to update I had Justin mention to me that something was up I started to look at all my sites to see where I was at. After doing the full round up I went to Bu.bulicio.us and found that from a PR4 my whole site went to PR0. People this is why I do not show my niches and ask the same thing from you folks do not put your links in this site to your sites. Why? Because people are assholes and jealousy is an amazing thing. It turns out Bu.bulicio.us was reported by a person as a site selling text links and pay per post. The site was also accused of spamming. Now I have already requested a reconsideration but the fact is that I never sold text links and the site is a few inches away from being spam but the most important thing is that I do write pay per post from Smorty so if I never get the page rank it is justified I know the rules and I was not playing by the rules. But the only reason I was looked at was because an asshole reported the site. SO FOLKS THIS IS WHY I WILL NEVER SHOW MY NICHES HERE!!!!
Now to the Page Rank update and the changes. Folks the way links are being counted toward PR have changed drastically and the crazy thing is that Court had already being talking about how important reciprocal linking within your niche would be. Now for PR you need to have related links as this are the ones that are being counted as authority links. So you may have 5 PR4 links but if they all are about “Horses” and your site is about “Apples” those 5 links are pretty much shit. Now remember that we have taught you that PR and SERPS are just a different beast so anchored links are still the same thing I notices on some of my sites drop of PR but a move up on serps because I have kept getting anchored links.
The second huge thing I noticed was how PR is being treated hugely different for what type of site you have. For example this site that is about blogging and making money Google outright does not give a fuck for indexing my inbound links or my PR but yet one of the readers here that followed my advice and started a local niche blog for his home town in two weeks of link building and using BookmarkingDemon he got a fucking PR6 . Folks let me tell you I have never seen some shit like that in my fucking life. Now what happen was he wrote a post about a local football sports game and was picked up by his local News Paper and in return CNN.com also picked up the story and linked to it from their site BAM!!!! instant fucking authority and Google seems to want to promote more of these types of blogs then the same shit of money making and blogging.
Now folks I have been telling you this since fucking day one. And now with these changes now it proves my point even more. People make sure you own your local fucking niche!!!!! Especially if you do a search and you see no local blogger, if you do not go straight to godaddy and buy a local blog domain name your are a serious dumb fuck.
Now with this lesson learned folks the more competitive your niche is the slower indexing of your inlinks will be. Let me repeat this the more competitive your niche is the slower your progress will be. So people if you have not yet read Court’s Building Authority With Blogroll/Sitewide Link Exchange you better go read it right now and take it to fucking heart now more then ever the other article you need to read if you have not read it yet is Grizz’s Backlinks – The Root of All Evil.
People if up to now you have doubted that Court, Grizz and me have being telling you things just like they are after this Page Rank update I truly believe we will never have to prove ourselves to anybody. We called this shit even before it happened and it shows you how in touch we are with how this fucking game is played.

Well I’m still a fucking PR0 after I have taken down all 3 of my PPP and all two of my TLA and they have been gone for two months now. I requested a reconsideration but I quess I am not important enough for them to care.
What type of niche?
I’m not showing any PR update yet either. Briefly I was showing a PR3 on my Free Blog Review page and a few other older posts but PR N/A on OpTempo’s home page.
At the same time, Blogging Zoom had PR4 on the Upcoming page but N/A on the Published page. But they’re both back to N/A according to what I’m seeing.
Two new niche sites of mine don’t show any sign of an update yet.
Frank I am showing across all data centers for Blogging Zoom PR4 and for OpTempo and BU PR0 all across data centers and this is not just us I have looked at over 50 sites that have some type of blogging or how to make money blogs and Google right now just does not give a fuck about these type of sites now almost all my niches got either same PR or went up.
Now Blogging Zoom being almost 4 months old and comparing Sphinn only got a PR6 and Digg only a PR8 I am extremely happy with PR4 and I think that this will drastically improve when we start getting more bloggers that their blogs have nothing to do with blogging. Think about this Problogger.net is just a PR6 and this is supposed to be the authority site in the blogging niche.
I tell you what right now for the new people you really want to have no Google traffic start a blog about blogging and making money I think Google is just tired of these shit blogs. AT the same time you have a niche or a blog about other stuff you want to fuck it up go an write a post about Blogging and How to get traffic with this and that.
Weird. I’m still showing PR0 for Blogging Zoom on the toolbar but on sites that read the data centers I’m seeing PR4. Maybe they’re still messing around with stuff.
My other niche and personal sites are holding the same PR as before as best I can tell.
It wouldn’t surprise me if someone did report OpTempo for something bogus. I probably ruffled a few feathers along the way. If this is the case it probably was the same fargin icehole who did the Akismet report.
Is it ever going to stop? When will we be able to just keep writing our posts and not have to worry about this shit anymore. If blogging was my only source of income I would hate to have to go and update all my niche sites to make sure I keep my ranking and serp position so I can eat for the next few months.
Its a bit unfair that google keeps changing the rules to suit themselves and so they payout less to adsense users.
Tim let’s be fair though I understand the frustration the facts are Google did not change the rules other companies started to use Google’s PR for their profit and to game the system all Google is doing is reacting to this.
I left a couple of comments on Grizz’s latest post about this – especially to do with expired domains that came with PR.
All the domains I bought with PR were in different niches except one five year old money domain which had no PR but I liked the name.
The one domain I would have put good money on to keep its PR6 with all its .edu verifiable backlinks went to PR0 along with a couple others. Some others just dropped one notch from 6 to 5 or 5 to 4 so there didn’t seem to be much of any pattern as all were NOT in make money or blogging niches (and I’m not saying what they are either cause I’m sure I got reported by some fucking asshole on a couple of my older sites that got buried).
Shit happens and we recover. At least some my Squidoo lenses got their PR back that they lost for some unknown reason halfway through the last change.
And I made a sweet $300 profit on that shit PR6 domain I bought to deliberately squander on PPP posts – just pissed it didn’t last a bit longer LMAO!!!!
Terry
Terry I love what you said shit happens and we recover that is how I look at it I just move forward and fuck it you know. This is why I have over 200 sites so I do not have to worry about what one or a few sites.
@Vic – you may be answering this in a different post, but how the hell do you keep all those sites organized?
Why not post a link to the PR6 local niche blog?
http://www.norfolk-n-way.com
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to add the F huh….
I tried that link Frank, but it redirected me to http://www.screw-u.info
Vic,
I’m a little shocked that my travel niche related site didn’t receive any pr at all. My toolbar went from grey to white.
My site has been up since late Nov of 2007 though, and I even have 6 pr 4 & 5 backlinks from other travel sites.
All that busting my butt to get links, write content almost every freaking day and they give me NOTHING!
What gives?
Jimmy send me via the contact form the link so I can look at it see if I see something that could point you to what is happening. But so you have an idea this site has 11k plus links including over 120 PR3 to PR6 links and even then I will not show PR this time around.
Vic,
I just sent my info via your contact form. Thanks again…
I will take a look at it today.
My site I work on all the time maintained PR4, my other site I neglect also kept PR4. And my new site with 3 posts received a PR3.
Emma PR is just crazy I am so happy you came out on the good side of the update.
My main site, that I really don’t do anything with anymore, kept it’s PR3. Thinking of letting it “die” on the vine and convert it to a BANS or slowly turn it into a niche site.
My video site jumped to a PR2. Even though I started working on it in August, I changed direction on it twice and it didn’t become a video site until November. *boggle*
Emma I am using BANS a lot right now it is just so easy to build a fast site that produces trickle money and at the same time use BMD to keep tagging the index raise the PR and sell ti for 500 plus.
i’m not sure i care anymore what pr is or does, but my skateboarding blog jumped to 1/10 i guess that’s good?
At the end of the day PR is most important if you are looking to sell the site or for PPP and if you decide to use PPP you will lose the PR anyway LMAO. Just keep getting them anchored links and working niches
One of my ultra competitive niche sites which had a PR3 is showing N/A at the moment probably still updating but I am not too concerned because from 10 hits a day I am now getting 20-30x more from SEs simply because I used the 3 musketeers’ methods and what is even better having lots of fun and some money. I had my brother look at it and he said I’m crazy. Like what Terry in the comments here and Court said in his latest post, ppl if you get a hit don’t worry too much or get too pissed just keep working at it. PR while useful and important is a part of something bigger so work on everything just as much.
YC at the end of the day the important thing is keyword authority I have passed by PR7 sites with a PR2 site just on keyword authority so I pay attention to the PR thing but this is not goign to stop me from getting my anchored links and doign my thing. Co0ntrol what you can control and fuck the rest. Like you said and Terry let’s just keep working like nothing happened.
Vic, I mix demand, keyword authority and getting links as my main focus now. PR only comes into play when I see people saying there’s an update so I check and also when I check on the links I’m trying to get but otherwise I don’t spend any of my time on it any longer. It wasn’t too long ago when I was upset that my main blog got slapped from 4 to 0 but now looking back it was time wasted worrying over something I brought onto myself anyway. I’m slowly building my portfolio according to targets I’ve set so that maybe 1 yr down the line I can put up workshops like those sleazy internet marketers
I like it when you say…The Three Musketeers’ methods. Suits them..
For those worrying about your PR – don’t. Check your serp rankings – if you have keyword authority your PR doesn’t matter and your rankings on the indexes shouldn’t change. This is the only thing that really matters. As Vic said – there are a lot of low PR sites on top of the serps.
Grizz,
You are absolutely right! PR does matter to a certain extent, depending on what you want to do with your site, and what your competition is like.
In a couple of my niches, some of the competition is PR 5 and PR6, however I am on page one with them because of my keywords in my post title, site name and domain name.
As for things taking time, it does. Just remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
The best advice I can give to anyone from my deep thoughts about all of this stuff is to keep working away at it. It all takes time, and one day you will wake up and find a nice explosion of traffic on your sites.
That has happened to me with one site, and another that just went live two days ago. I am getting over 50 hits so far each day.
It takes time and a little luck depending on what you are going for.
Just keep smiling and working away at it, and you will be rewarded!
Amen
Grizzly good comment I have been getting more organic traffic lately and the last time I checked I was on the first page of home based business opportunities. I swore I would not post about page rank and I wont , so I ll just comment. I am not smart enough to play with page rank, I am just going to keep doing what I do. I did not start my site or any other site with the idea of building page rank, I just wanted to have a home based business and I will
Don as Grizz and Court have said the important thing is we keep an eye on the price and just keep getting them links, it might be the most boring thing we do but it is what gets us paid.
Vic,
Do you use Keyword Elite and SEO Elite to check those stats on keyword density and backlinks to your sites? I have to admit I’m a little befuddled by all the talk about checking stats but given there are so many programs out there, I’d like to know which ones you use for this.
Maybe you mentioned this before and if you did my apologies.
Hi Monika,
I don’t know about Vic but I use both of those tools. Probably more than any other programs. They have had bug issues but Brad Callen has been pretty good with regular updates. They are huge time savers and have a lot of features – more than I use. Wordtracker is as good as Keyword Elite but it’s a monthly subscription. SEO Elite is the real gem – you can track just about anything – PR, Keyword Rankings, all your competitors etc. They are pricey but worth it. Just my 2c … now how do I get my Affiliate link on here! Hey Vic… do something about that would ya?
…I didn’t say this but…
do NOT go looking at thepiratesbay dot com in case you see something that does NOT look like SEO Elite that you can NOT download for NOTfree…
ok, I didn’t say that so don’t do it as it’s unethical and amoral to download software that you don’t pay for…
NOT Terry (it wasn’t me ok)
I am just like Grizz and mmmm Terry nice hint hint
Oops, a slight error that has been sending people to the wrong place, um… not…
it’s NOT thepiratebay dot org …how not confusing is that… not!
Oh bollocks here’s the fucking link:
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/36.....r2.0_patch
Just do NOT go there ok? LMFAO!!!
Well Vic , you have inspired me yet again, I now own a baseball related site, which will make 4 sites for this month as I promised my readers I would acquire, it is a local site, perhaps my years of writing for ESPN will pay off,
Don for quite sometime Google has being telling us how much they care about these niches that have no searches and now it is just plain in our faces.
1st article indexed in 10 minutes, you gotta love it, site is lees than 36 hours old
My site officially lost all of its PageRank in this update. Of course, there’s no one but myself to blame, because I have been selling links. I hate seeing that big fat zero, so I’m going to quit selling dofollow advertising from now on.
Tay look at it like a blessing. The money is not in that niche anyway take this opportunity and start a niche that has real cash in it.
I’ve had a site for 3 years now. Never been above a PR1. Never had paid for advertising. Just used it to make to put some information out there. Recently I did put on an Amazon link to the book I co-authored. I don’t get much traffic on my blog so I haven’t wasted my time trying to make money from that.
What has frustrated me is the rubbish sites that do link to mine. When I followed the links that google’s webmaster tools listed and I was and still am ready to remove my site. There is more to it than that I just have to figure out how to deal with it.
AlexK it is quite complex but the basic solid fundamentals never change. Grizz, Court and me make money today with pretty much the same knowledge from 4 years ago the fundamentals are always the same.
LOL I have an abandoned BANS site that just got a PR2 and gets like 1 visitor a day.
Then I have my blog which is no longer breaking any rules and has over 100 posts with its PR0
Bruce I got one better for you buddy. The index to this site has huge amount of anchored backlinks and a PR0 now click on my Domains category and it had a PR3 mmm WTF? Like I have said before their are still tons of things I just say WTF and move on.
Moving on I guess have individual articles with a PR 3 , and I have no idea why, but I guess why ask why?
Vic perhaps at times Im dumb as a rock , but you said SO FOLKS THIS IS WHY I WILL NEVER SHOW MY NICHES HERE!!!!
Meanwhile Court is promoting to some extent at least his lasik site, What the difference
Don 2 reasons I have been a Black Hatter most of my life so I am a paranoid bitch and second everybody loves Court but everybody fucking hates me LMAO. So peeps will think it twice to fuck with Court but peeps would salivate to stick it to me way up the ass.
Cant say I disagree with that, I have a post about it but its blogging related and likely will not posted , but I definately have a view point, maybe I ll fit it in somewhere
Court is promoting his niche blog as an example and case study for the readers to benefit, learn, and apply. He specifically mentions in the first post this is the purpose and he won’t reveal any other of his niches. Also, he won’t be using adsense on that site for this very reason.
