Make $25k In 2008 I Challenge You!

Well folks today is Jan 13 2008 and my question to you is would you like to make $25k in 2008 guaranteed? I think we still need things to touch and things you need to learn but you have enough to start your new venture the right way and we still have enough time in 2008 to make some cash as you can see I did not say make serious cash as I do not find $25k real money especially with the cost of living today, but I know that many of you are barely making $100.00 from your websites now so an extra $25k should be a welcome thing.

By now you have to be asking ok and who’s dick do I have to suck to make that extra 25k, luckily enough their is no dick sucking or a pencil up the ass to make the money. All you have to do is what we have been telling you since day one but now I will help you in the process.

I have been telling you folks that your local niche should be a must in your portfolio and now with this PR update it just drives my point even farther then I could have expected. So I am challenging you to start your niche today and I will tell you how all of us here will help each other.

First I want to tell you my view on blogging so you understand me and the reason behind Blogging Zoom a bit better. I believe Blogging is still in diapers even though many have though that the blogging craze might be at it’s peak. The fact is that the power of bloggers has been lost on people starting blogs about blogging and making money, folks imagine if all those blogs instead where local niche blogs, I ask you imagine how many times you would find front pages of Google cluttered with blogs speaking about a particular subject.

I think bloggers could be the most powerful media period. The local blogger could go to a local Fred Thompson showing with his digital cam and in a matter of hours have an online real description of what happened where their maybe no considerations like advertising and corporate control of the information. Imagine a local blogger where their may be a protest of some sort and now you are the voice that the large media outlets did not want to promote. Folks the power the blogger has is unimaginable but for quite sometime it has been wasted on how to get to the first page of Blogging Zoom post and how to game Digg.

The time has arrived for bloggers to show their strength to show the little guy can be just as powerful as the famous rich guy, but the question is who is willing to believe this. Why not make money and at the same time make a difference why not scream instead of just whisper. The combination of how Google looks at blogs and the need for new relevant information gives us an advantage compared to every other fucking media out their but again I ask you do you want to waste this power writing how great Tweeter is?

This is what I propose. I know most of you have not even bought a local niche domain but now it is time to put up or shut up. Folks I did the math and making 25k should be a breeze with your local niche blog now the larger your core base of readers the more opportunity you will have to increase the income but even in a small community of 5k people 25k is more then doable due to the reach of the external trying to find information from you the local.

So this is what you will do and what I will do. Go buy a local niche domain try to incorporate the obvious local news words like gazette, chronicle, post, news, etc etc etc get a news theme I have recommended before Blog Oh Blog V2.0 it is free once you got the blog going down the line you can buy a commercial theme but it is important you start with a news theme from day one. Make sure you do enough research to find the perfect market start some in your searches maybe start with a sector of your city and expand all the way to county and city. Do not worry if you see if a few blogs look at their PR and look at what they talk about if they are a generic subject you will still kick their ass do not worry about competition I ask you how many people are writing for blogging which on has 45k searches a month and thousands and thousands of blogs but yet you are writing about it having 5 blogs for competition should be a joke compared to what you are doing now.

You will not use adsense the CPC will be all over the place so you will use a combination of generic advertising I will make a post about this type of advertising. You will not be fucking placing 500 ads you will be very focused on the advertising and selective on what you will be using you will be setting yourself up from the beginning to sell ad space on your site from day one.

You will be looking at your income on a yearly basis and not on a daily basis. This is one of the biggest factors why people get frustrated and quit on an online business, sometimes days go by with out me even looking at my stats and looking at my affiliate accounts to see if I made any money I do not concentrate on making money I concentrate on building my sites the money comes automatically. It might take months to build a profitable site but ask Frank at OpTempo how a site he has out of nowhere started having more and more organic traffic and making him money. So folks change your mentality stop looking at your adsense earnings and logging into your affiliate account the same time you wasted doing that was the time you could have used to get links.

Now I have a domain that I will be building just to create anchored links to all the local niche bloggers and these anchored links will be with the intention of giving you authority on local news second folks you need to unite in one common goal and help each other you need to stop the self centered bitch mentality. You will submit all your post to Blogging Zoom and all of you will not only Zoom your fellow bloggers submission but you will visit their sites and make comments so when the real local readers reach your fellow bloggers blog they will see not a brand new site but a site that already has readership and they will want to participate. YOU FUCKING NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!! you will use the Blogging Zoom button in every post this will give your blog also more credibility since you will all be Zooming each other you will have Zoom counts on your post again when the new readers start reaching your blog they will see credibility. Now I will not only be promoting your Blogging Zoom submissions but I will also help you promote your individual post on your blogs. Now because these will not be your typical niche blog you will not be that keyword focused, you will use keywords inside your post but more in an organic nature but your submission to Blogging Zoom is the one you will submit with the Google traffic in mind so you will write the submission keyword stuffing it and asking the reader to come and visit your blog to read the complete article.

You will need to focus on many subjects on your local niche blog but I can tell you that if you write about local school sports local weather and local politics you will get national readership I consistently see how on a bad weather day local news sites get more traffic then national sites so if you are driving to work and see a horrible accident because of the weather take five minutes when you get to work and write a quick post on how i95 their is a bad accident because of flooding and people should take such and such measures to get to work now you also need to promote it locally like I mention on Your Local Niche Market .

Folks if you listen to me and do as I say and apply all the things Court and Grizz have taught you, I can assure you huge results because even though right now I have not mentioned it once you get local keyword autority I will teach you how to write local articles that will trigger Geo Adsense Tracking and you will use in certain post Adsense that will bring you the easy $20 clicks but before we get their first we need to actually build the local niche blog and until we get you local keyword authority you will use generic advertising which I will discuss in a later post today.

I challenge you people get of your fucking ass and leave the excuses in 2007 and choose success for 2008.

This sounds great, way better than any of that $100k challenge or similar crap! Something that people can do + someone that will actually help.

If anyone needs further proof that they should jump on this, listen up: I know someone running a local news site for a small, rural town and they get more traffic than JohnChow.com! (And they aren’t even affiliated with the local print newspaper.) Obviously it takes work but what doesn’t?

    1. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 18:11 (Reply)

Sucker it works because that is where the searches are at last month there where over 20 million searches for local weather alone this is what people search. I have a friend with a local niche blog and all he covers is an avenue strip that is full of clubs and stores and he is just making sick money from that niche alone.

But the most important thing is exactly what you said “Obviously it takes work but what doesn’t?” their is no such thing as a magic bullet but with solid fundamentals we can achieve success.

I’m moving in about 3-4 weeks to a new location in the greater Atlanta, GA metro area. I’m in the final stages of launching a niche blog for this new area. Better yet, I’m starting to get some local advertisers lined up.

Can you guess who one of your best local advertisers most likely will be? Real estate agents. When people are thinking about moving to a new area, they’ll look on the Internet for info. They find your blog and read a ‘review’ of a new home subdivision along with similar reviews of local churches, schools, and so forth.

    1. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 19:07 (Reply)

Frank that is awesome personally I am fucked right now my local market is Spanish so mmm not really working it but we are moving this year hopefully to maine and can not wait to get a local niche blog working

  3. Elliott on 13.01.2008 at 18:24 (Reply)

    Count me in!

I’ve got a friend who works for our local paper (over 250K) live in our area and he is wanting to do this.

Time to get him on board! He’s a marketing manager for this paper too!

    1. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 19:08 (Reply)

Elliot I can not wait or you folks to see how crazy traffic can be to local news niches

    2. Mike on 14.01.2008 at 13:07 (Reply)

Geez Elliott…that couldn’t be a more perfect scenario. I’m jealous :( I think you have a goldmine on your hands :)

      1. Elliott on 14.01.2008 at 22:29 (Reply)

        Thanks Mike,

I found a domain name from 2002 for my area on the GoDaddy auctions and just snagged it! I’m ready to rock with it now!

The great thing is this domain is still getting hits from the SE’s!

  4. Elliott on 13.01.2008 at 18:36 (Reply)

    Vic,

I am assuming that this should be a pre-existing domain name? Or would it get sandboxed really quick with a new domain?

I think I already know the answer to this, but…

    1. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 19:05 (Reply)

Pre-owne is always better but I know it might be a bitch trying to find a pre-owned with the correct name so if a must get anew one this is one of those you want a really good name

  5. Denise on 13.01.2008 at 18:42 (Reply)

    I am on it!

I am really excited about this. I have been researching this since you first brought it up. Now I am ready to take action.

Today is the best day to start.

    1. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 19:09 (Reply)

Denise awesome please make sure once you have the domains and blog setup you contact me with my contact form so I can take you in the mentor program and help you one on one.

This is excellent, i’ll wait for your next post. I am comfortable with my local community here, so I’ll give this a shot.

Thanks for narrowing down the strong subjects of a local niche (school, sports, politics, weather), now I have a clearer picture of everything.

I sure look forward to helping you get that niche going.

  7. Tuppy Glossop on 13.01.2008 at 19:15 (Reply)

I moved to Israel from the USA about four years ago. My gut feeling is that this would have worked great in my town in the States, but less well here in Israel.

Any other non-US readers of this post have an opinion? I’d love to be wrong … writing about local stuff would be a lot more fun than acne creams or teeth whitening.

  8. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 19:29 (Reply)

Tuppy you and me are in the same boat and you are partially right. The traffic would be the same as Google would still give you authority the problem would be monetization. Now I was actually talking to my wife a few minutes agon and she made a really good point. I was bitching how I could not start a local blog because of the language and wife say to me yeah but the guy who lives in New York or Orlando or any part of the US speaks English and still wants to have local news from here so we might still have a chance. I am actually buying a domain right now and I will see if it works for us folks that are out of the English speaking arena.

    1. Tuppy Glossop on 13.01.2008 at 19:53 (Reply)

Not sure where you are (I’m a new reader), but you mentioned Spanish speaking. Part of my problem is that I’m not bilingual … I’d be aiming solely at English-speakers in Israel, not Hebrew-speakers. But there’s a twist on your idea that’s already common in Anglo communities — community email lists. You’ve inspired me to write a post about them for my much neglected blog … when I do I’ll link back here.

Till I actually get off my butt & do that, this is an example of what I mean. It’s not my town’s list (that’s a member only list on Yahoo, so not linkable) but it’s pretty similar:

      http://shemesh.co.il/pipermail...../date.html

Loads of requests for help or info; stuff wanted or for sale; announcements of events, or family celebrations; and a certain amount of whining. It’s all VERY local, and specific to this community (English speaking Orthodox Jews who’ve moved to Israel).

Of course, as you mention … how to monetize it? More in my blog post. I hope. When I write it. And I will. Really.

      1. Elliott on 13.01.2008 at 21:42 (Reply)

        Tuppy,

I know that there would be a, what I suspect, a large market for people looking for information about Israel that are outside of it.

All of the tourists, friends and religious folks that are wondering about topics such as security, sightseeing popular places, best restaurants, etc.

I’d give it a go and see what happens.

        1. Tuppy Glossop on 14.01.2008 at 07:18 (Reply)

Elliott, I really like that idea! Interesting … I was thinking local residents, but you might be right, it would be even more attractive to tourists and visitors.

I actually have a couple of domain names I registered a year or two ago that use “holyland” rather than “Israel” … can’t even remember what I had planned for them, but they might work nicely for this.

          Thanks for the idea.

          1. Elliott on 14.01.2008 at 15:39 (Reply) (Comments won't nest below this level)

You’re welcome! Do some keyword research and see what is searched for most often, whether it is for tours, or holy land, etc and then go after it.

Plus, if you need to find affiliates or use Google Adsense, or your best bet might be to find those local hotspots that people are seaching for and then let them pay you for advertising on your sites!

  9. Bruce Hollingdrake on 13.01.2008 at 19:40 (Reply)

    OK Vic,

You got me, my ass is yours (figuratively - sorry).
I’ll follow the niche idea like a true lemming. Give me direction oh great leader..

Seriously though. I’ve been running The Bookshop Blog since July. It’s coming along nicely, nice niche - bookselling. I just registered greenfieldparkgazette.com to give my local niche a try. Let’s see where it goes!!

    1. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 19:47 (Reply)

Bruce just fucking awesome I love it setup the word press blog and contact me via the contact form so we can do one on one mentorship.

  10. Trent Brownrigg on 13.01.2008 at 19:43 (Reply)

As usual this is one of the best posts I have ever read… you seem to be posting a lot of those. I think you have spots 1-10 of my favorite all time posts now.

Once again this has sparked me to take action and change the direction in which I am taking my business. I do make a lot more than 25K per year online right now but another 25K on top of that will be nice!

I never even thought about doing anything local and how easy it really could be.

    1. Vic on 13.01.2008 at 19:48 (Reply)

Trent I know 25k is not much but for many people reading this blog it is. Plus the last thing I would ever do is tell people to do something that was not achievable I know their will be local niches that will produce 25k times 5 but some will have a limited niche so I had to go with the lower end of the scale.

  11. Muhammad Alfian on 13.01.2008 at 19:59 (Reply)

I would gladly have done that a long time ago, but from where I am, the people just dont use Google much, cept for the geeks, who use it mostly for tech reviews and what nots.

Singapore it is btw, and I can say goodbye to organic traffic from the already small population, not to mention the web savvy.

The people here spend a bulk of their time on social networking sites, facebook, myspace, friendster.. Advice on that? Could get traffic from there but i dont know. Would be a great challenge. =/

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 19:34 (Reply)

Muhammad how about tourism? Maybe with that outlook it might work.

    2. Natural Health Remedies on 23.01.2008 at 22:54 (Reply)

My friend has a blog in Singapore where she writes about clubs, restaurants and clothes. I left her a message asking if she has any stats installed and if she’d ever thought about making money from it.

  12. sir jorge on 13.01.2008 at 20:13 (Reply)

i don’t even make half that at my job as a tech worker

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 19:35 (Reply)

I know it is good money for many people no doubt and it is a niche that you could make money different ways.

  13. jimmy on 13.01.2008 at 21:07 (Reply)

    Vic,

Help me understand. Are you saying that a local niche news blog will not go after organic serp traffic but from advertising and links?

When I search for local stuff in wordtracker the amount of search traffic is terrible.

Even local weather searches are like 50-100 searches per day.

I know you mentioned that when local big news happen people will search for info on that event or person, but Wordtracker makes it look like local news stuff is barely searched for.

    Correct me on this one…

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 00:34 (Reply)

jimmy what area are you looking for?

  14. East of Huntsville on 14.01.2008 at 00:13 (Reply)

Vic, Great Idea! Just to attest, I started this local news blog the last week of December. I picked up on a couple of hot local stories (Sheriff Deputy arrested, shopping center development, bank robbery), wrote a couple of posts on those topics with a few pics. Then I post a link pointing to the blog in the local newspaper forum and BAM I go from 13 visits one day to 63 the next. I’m averaging 25 visits a day, 68% are new. Not a bad start in my opinion.

I’ve been working through the plan for selling local advertising and think I have those details under control. How long should I wait to start selling the ads?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and for throwing down the 25K challenge. I’m in!

    -Thom

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 00:33 (Reply)

Thom worked right the payoff is sweet.

  15. Denise on 14.01.2008 at 00:22 (Reply)

I am so geeked about this!

I live in an area in Michigan that is right on Lake Michigan. With the winters and summers we have there is always something going on. Plus the weather is from one extreme to another. No problem with Michigan having the worst unemployment in the country our housing industry is big news. My daughter is working with a realator in our area now. He could give me all sorts of input for maybe a mention of his company on my blog.

Can you tell I am pumped?

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 00:33 (Reply)

Denise you will see how crazy the traffic is to local niches.

  16. Work From Home Jobs on 14.01.2008 at 00:25 (Reply)

I’m a little bit confused about this one. These local niche blogs seem to be something that need to be updated rather frequently. I thought the best way to go was with the niche blogs that you, Griz, and Court were explaining that do not have to be updated except now and then.

I’ve already done the daily blog thing and want to ge AWAY from that. What gives?

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 00:32 (Reply)

Bruce this is not that type of niche this is a whole different ball game. The local niche is the high maintenance blog it is not a set and forget but the idea behind it is totally different and also because of the easy authority it gets you use it for other things which I will not discuss here. Plus Bruce you have to remember the niche you work is the niche with no traffic high maintannace and no rewards with the local niche blog the rewards are extremely high.

      1. Work From Home Jobs on 14.01.2008 at 01:11 (Reply)

Vic I understand my dayjobnuker blog niche makes no money. What I am saying is that I don’t want to start another blog (even though it is in a local niche) because that is a lot of work.

You were preaching the smaller niche blogs (like ant farms, ants scratching their butts, and the like) which seems like a lot less work once you set them up properly and get them to the first page of Google. Now you come out with the local niche thing that just seems like too much work to me. I have a job dammit! I don’t have that much time!!

        1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 01:21 (Reply)

Bruce no doubt man I know you are slammed and niches is where it is at. I will email you though some info on how to benefit from your primary site to bump your niches a bit. And Bruce you are totally right the person that does not want to be dealing with blogging every day this is not the way to go.

Bruce BTW some fucking asshole marked you as spam and now the last three comments you made are being sent to Askimet welcome to the club Frank and me had to deal with thi9s shit a few weeks ago.

          1. Work From Home Jobs on 14.01.2008 at 01:32 (Reply) (Comments won't nest below this level)

Yea, I think I might have a few enemies but life is more fun that way. I like to stir the pot sometimes

  17. costa on 14.01.2008 at 00:57 (Reply)

    Vic,

25K is not real money to you?! Boy, a 25K yearly income in my country means we are in the upper middle class and we can live damn comfortably. With the exchange rate now, it translate to roughly 82K for me. Half the population here do not make that kind of money! I , for sure, don’t make that kind of money. :-(

Anyway, back to the local niche. I do have a blog that is about 2 years old blogging for the locals, not in my town, but for the local countrymen, written in babelfish English which we locals call Manglish. It’s a mixture of English and Malay which local people relates to.

I don’t publicise the blog as no one outside my region will understand what I write there, though it has some following locally :-) I won’t know if it will stand a chance with your proposal, but after reading your post about local niche the other day, I have taken a new approach by targetting a few keywords that I see are popular with the people here.

I can BZ the articles, but when they do come, they will be scratching their heads trying to decipher what I wrote.

That’s the reason I decided to branch out with Blogigs. And it was a good thing, because I met you.

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 19:36 (Reply)

Costa I am sorry for not contacting you the last 2 days I am still dealing with the health thing and trying to get you guys going but we will get this done.

Vic, I am from a different country altogether and the population is maybe 1-2 states combined of the States and since the govt cracks down on any ‘free speech’ that ‘disturbs the local peace and quiet’ I probably have to stick to writing local sports or events. Just wanted to clarify on the domain if it’s a niche in the UK, are you saying get one that is *.co.uk, so on and so forth?

I just have to be careful with this in a way I tend to write things that piss people off…

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 19:48 (Reply)

YC wow my sincerely apologies yes no doubt friend be very careful.

      1. YC on 14.01.2008 at 23:38 (Reply)

No problem Vic I am going ahead with it I will just report things as they are and leave the controversial aspects out of it. Already have a few angles in mind. :) Thanks man

btw, I see another dumb fuck trying to join the crowd by being controversial and writing about stuff that he doesn’t know anything about heheheh

        1. Vic on 15.01.2008 at 17:23 (Reply)

YC yeah the funny thing is that it actually sad as he has no opportunity to make nay money due to the niche.

    OK Vic,

I only recently found your blog and your local niche post inspired me to purchase thekingishergazette.com, I live in a small town outside of Oklahoma City, OK with a pop of about 5,500. If I can do this on 5K pop (following you post I know I will) so can others.

Thanks for the great post, my blog will be up in 24 hours.

LMAO I am very exited for you folks and I am working on some sites and tools to help you all out.

  22. Monika@The Writers Manifesto on 14.01.2008 at 11:03 (Reply)

    Hey Vic,

This is so cool. As it happened I brainstormed with my husband this morning for ideas to write on the blog. I wanted to have stuff that didn’t require me to go out and roam the town everyday since I’m really not a person to do this comfortably (I did this for 2.5 years in MLM and hated it).

After a couple of hours we came up with a huge list of topics to blog about and despite the fact that the town name only gets 100 searches a day I’m confident that there is money to be made.

I live in a popular tourist destination and whilst doing research for a niche marketer I saw a lot of adwords ads that advertised local real estate. This only manifested the belief that there is an opportunity.

Currently there are some local sites that talk mainly about tourism, but non talks about news and community - all the better for me. :-)

I registered the YeppoonGazette and will get busy building the blog using the theme you suggested.

I’m pumped up about this and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

        Vic,

Blog is up and running, I worked until 1.20 AM last night just to get it going. :-) Now I seem to have trouble installing Plugins to the theme you suggested up in the post. I’m using the latest WP version but I can’t seem to upload Plugins.

Damn, I hate when tech stuff doesn’t work. Also I’m trying to change the banner but haven’t found the right way to do this. I know it is via the CSS but I’m confused with all the codes. LOL

            Very cool :) Looks beautiful!!

  23. This sounds incredibly easy … so much so that I’m going to do the very same. I’m an English-speaker living in a very non-English Japan, but I know there’s a pretty big market in the Southern prefectures for some local news and events in English. I’ll be setting up a domain this weekend (my only day off is Sunday) and putting some of your great posts to work for me.

If I can pull in even a meager $5K I’ll be happy. Anything more would just be icing on the cake :)

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 19:54 (Reply)

Jason I am trying to find in my bookmarks I have a site in Japan that deals with people that are moving from the US to Japan and I found it amazing how this extremely small niche this guy looked like he was killing it in many different ways so you might have a small gold mine at your reach.

  24. Elliott on 14.01.2008 at 15:43 (Reply)

    Denise,

You’re best best is to find the “single.php” file and put it at the top of the page, like right before “the content” section.

You can then float it left or right and allow the content to move around it. If you need better directions, contact me through my sites contact form and I can help more in depth.

Hehe, Vic. I like the article, but I can’t do what you suggest where I live. Nope, I’m not gonna tell you, so neener neener. (If you read my “about” page the last time you visited, then you already know). Anyway, my AdSense is targeted to the U.S. and my former home is Phoenix and I’m pretty sure the local bloggers own that niche there. It doesn’t matter though, because it’s not local to me and I’d be talking, or writing, out my ass.

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 19:56 (Reply)

RT yeah if you are not there it would really be hard to work it. One of the things the local niche blog provides is the opportunity to be the first to write about something know body knows yet and this is the big pay day opportunity.

  27. Atlantic City, NJ on 14.01.2008 at 18:24 (Reply)

Oh Great One. I am here to follow!!!! This sounds interesting, you can count me in. Question Vic, why wouldn’t you just add city and state categories to BloggingZoom?

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 19:58 (Reply)

We are looking to expand the categories and we are looking to make it work with the navigation we are kind of on the same boat s Digg we found that the way the structure works the more sub-categories the harder for actual navigation it would be. What we did was actually copy Propellers categories now we have added some since then but again down the line we might make some type of Ajax mneu where it would be easier to handle sub-categories

    Hi Vic,

This is gonna take some brain-strain as I’m living here in Spain (bollocks, I’m a poet now…LMFAO!), but there’s a pretty big English population down here too so I reckon if Jason can do it in Japan I sure as hell can do it here!

Been trying to source a expired domain all day but come up blank for anything even half decent, so it look like I’ll have to get a new one (Aw!)

There’s a lot of real estate agents here too, but that industry is about to collapse - hey, I can write about that too - every cloud has a silver lining!

    Terry

    1. Vic on 14.01.2008 at 20:03 (Reply)

Terry yeah please look at my comment on Jason and Japan sometimes we have these small niches that could just be gold mines and we really do not know.

      1. Terry Didcott on 15.01.2008 at 06:35 (Reply)

Nice one Vic, There are a lot of Brits that still wanna move down here so there’s another angle. I was surprised when I did some keyword searches for local towns/areas that they get very few searches. Costa Del Sol is also lower than I expected, but the competition on Google can be beaten with a well SEO’d blog.

I found an expired domain that might work, not too sure: pscosta.com (PS, Costa Del Sol… as a poss name) I’ll try it and see what happens

    2. Elliott on 14.01.2008 at 22:34 (Reply)

      Terry,

Check out some of my ideas for Tuppy in the comments towards the top. He lives in Israel and didn’t think he could do anything with his niche sites there.

Go for areas like tourism, best restaurants, etc for tourist and people moving there or just thinking of visiting.

Huge niche and you have an advantage over the travel companies. They are promoting their own interest. You can promote something from a personal side, and then sell ads to the local companies you are promoting. Plus all of the affiliate programs for stuff too!

      Best wishes on this!

      1. Terry Didcott on 15.01.2008 at 06:38 (Reply)

Thanks Elliott, you’re right about targeting potential visitors/migrants to the area. I’m sure a lot of the local english speaking business owners will be interested in some advertising when they see a blog killing all the local tourist/news sites on page 1 in Google!

        A saying I like is:-

Don’t aim for sparrows if you wanna hit turkeys!

The master bath has an in-line heated whirlpool tub and a 4′ shower. 1. Vic on 15.01.2008 at 01:02 (Reply)

John it is not needed but I would try to incorporate the name of the local niche for SEO reasons the additional names you mentioned are good for branding reasons and in case you want to sell down the line you have a more branded product hence more money.

So I would try to buy a domain like: miamigazette.com or any of the others you mentioned.

    Hi Vic,

I am already inspired by your first post about local niche and now I HAVE to take action. It’s just that by not living in the US, the monetization is extremely limited.

I too live in singapore with a population only half of Michigan. So If I write for a local community, the population will be even smaller. Do I target the country (singapore) or my local community?

Also, don’t want to sound like a bugger, but I have send you a couple of email through the contact form, did you recieved them?

    1. Vic on 15.01.2008 at 17:29 (Reply)

I know I read a post by Costa and I myself I am limited to some options. I promise I will try to do some deep research and see what are all the types of monetization to make a list and see if I may help.

  38. Monika@The Writers Manifesto on 15.01.2008 at 07:51 (Reply)

    hey bmunch,

Just to let you know, my local population is “only” around 15,000 but that won’t stop me from being successful. I think catering to a smaller community can have huge advantages as it is way more personal than living and blogging about a big city.

So either way, you should do it sooner than later.

@Terry, sorry I didn’t want to do two entries otherwise Vic will mark me as a spammer too. LOL

Anyway, I’m having an absolute ball and if I could manage to upload some bloody plugins to the theme, I would be totally happy.

    1. Terry Didcott on 15.01.2008 at 17:36 (Reply)

All this talk of spam reminds me of a Monty Python sketch… hehehe

Seriously, are you having trouble actually uploading the plugins, or in activating them once they’re on your server?

I’ve heard there are some problems with the latest version of Wordpress with older plugins - I’m still running 2.3.1 and have no problems with plugins like BZ and sphinn, feedburner, all-in-one-SEO etc.

What are you having problems with?

      Terry

      1. Monika@The Writers Manifesto on 15.01.2008 at 23:07 (Reply)

        Terry,

I upload and then go to the plugin section in admin and there is nothing. The same problem happens on my Freelance Writing blog (writers manifesto) I have a feeling it is the latest WP version, since updating I cannot use any new plugins. ;-(

        1. Atlantic City, NJ on 15.01.2008 at 23:40 (Reply)

If the plug-in is not in the right folder, it wouldn’t show up in admin. Just a thought.

        2. Terry Didcott on 17.01.2008 at 08:32 (Reply)

For the benefit of anyone else reading this, I think we got to the bottom of it on skype yesterday.

It looks like the new version of Wordpress is not compatible with older plugins and until the authors of the plugins update them they don’t look like they’ll work. As you said another upgrade to Wordpress 2.5 is due in March which can only mean more problems with plugins.

What about BZ? Vic, you mentioned an upgrade to Ajax soon will it be compatible with WP2.4?

Any good programmers out there have any ideas?

I’m so fucking curious to see the results of this challenge. My belief is that most of the “wanna make fuckin’ money on net” people don’t understand the word “work” the same as you do, and they will miserably fail, because they cannot imagine that somebody can actually “work” for 6-10 hours in a row, for many days, or for many months until they see the bucks they so much long for.

I’ll watch you closely, and I wish you to have a lot of successful buddies is this attempt.

    1. Vic on 15.01.2008 at 17:31 (Reply)

Simonne this is one challenge I really hope you are wrong even though the stats support your comment. I can say this though. I will try to help every one achieve success and I hope with a post I am about to write people understand this is the moment to help each other.

      1. Simonne on 15.01.2008 at 18:13 (Reply)

I also hope to be wrong, because I think your attempt is great, and it can show people that money can be made online, and that they don’t have to act like monkeys, they just have to use the brain a little bit and forget about the stupid competition I can see ongoing these days. There’s no competition, we should just help each other and enjoy the results.

You have all my support, and you can be sure that if I read here about anything I’m not using right now, I’ll try it. I’ve been watching bu.bulicio.us for some time, and I think you did a great job with it. Too bad that some people like to stand out by pointing to others’ faults.

Vic - I live in a small suburb of a small city. How local would you recommend?

    1. Elliott on 18.01.2008 at 03:02 (Reply)

      James,

It depends on how small you are talking, and how close you are to the next largest city. If you are talking about 50 people, might not work to good unless you can bring some outside news in to the site.

Get in touch with me if you need some more help though my site.

  44. Nnamdi on 16.01.2008 at 07:59 (Reply)

Vic I am going to buy the domain niche site tomorrow, but I am concerned about something. I cannot exactly be scouring the streets for news all the time so how am I supposed to find stuff to post about that will actually get attention.

I mean it seems to me that anything really hot thats worth posting about will be covered in many places, not just by me.

Also, until I can find my own news I am thinking that I could just look at stories from various sites and talk about those.

Finally, I know that one of my main ways of getting traffic is gonna be through search engine traffic. So should every post have a certain keyword in the title that I know gets searched? I mean, looking at some stats thats only gonna be about 30 posts that will get good traffic from google if I rank well for those keywords. It seems like if I am to have lots of posts then some of them just won’t receive the same amount of hits from google because they aren’t searched much.

    Thoughts?

    1. Nnamdi on 16.01.2008 at 08:06 (Reply)

      Also one more thing (lol)
I can’t seem to get any of my posts zoomed on BloggingZoom. I mean I have zoomed 85 other posts, and added 12 other people as friends and I still got no zooms. I am also surprised that out of those 12 that I added, only one added me back.

      Kinda lame.

Still though, BloggingZoom is nice for the google juice. The only thing is that my BloggingZoom submissions tend to rank higher that my actual blog lol >.<

      1. RT Cunningham on 16.01.2008 at 08:31 (Reply)

[I know, I should be sleeping right now, but I saw this and I couldn't resist.]

It’s not just about zooming and friend, thought that helps tremendously. It’s also about actually visiting and commenting on the blogs of other zoomers. Us bloggers are a fickle bunch and our egos just loved to be stroked.

    2. YC on 16.01.2008 at 08:17 (Reply)

Nnamdi, hope you don’t mind me butting in. You do not necessarily need to scour the streets or write the same stuff that other news sites or papers are already writing about. You can write about stuff that you find interesting yourself, and also not necessarily news, how about tourist spots, or something unique about your locale. Or tune into the psyche of your locals and see what they are always or generally into and hook onto that demand. What about local sports. I think many bloggers worry about whether there’s actually anything they can add on top of what other ‘authority sites’ have already written about especially when they are a ‘nobody’. I look at it as they started out as nobodies as well and I can be unique by adding my own voice. And I might know what other locals demand or are hungry for, and I can angle my niches towards that.

As for BZ, if you find no response, just take the initiative and drop a msg to those people and start asking for zooms. Yup. Don’t leave your fate totally in others’ hands, sometimes we gotta grab it by its throat. ;) Also, zooming other posts might sometimes not be enough, try leaving comments as well - you’ll get noticed more.

    3. Elliott on 18.01.2008 at 03:08 (Reply)

      Nnamdi,

Great questions! As for local niche stuff, it doesn’t have to be breaking news. You are in a unique position, as are all local niche bloggers. Why? Because you can add a “human” voice to things. People read or listen to the news, but it is usually someone killing someone, a bank robbed, etc. etc. (at least here in the US).

If you report about how great the service was at a restaurant, and if people agree, let the business owner know that they heard about his restaurant on your site, guess where he will be going to check out the review?

Did you find a great deal on something on sale? How was the weather? Did a wreck cause a major traffic mess and how did other drivers around you feel sitting in traffic?

There are lots of local topics to talk about. You can also “put your two cents in” on stories other places are covering. Makes it more personal.

As for the keywords. If you are talking about a local sports star, you would want to mention his full name several times. The next time you read the paper, see how many times the persons full name is used? not that many. If you use it more often while keeping it legible and readable, golden google search juice.

      Hope taht helps some!

Damn Vic, you got me so excited babout this I acn’t tyupe!

    4. Atlantic City, NJ on 18.01.2008 at 10:49 (Reply)

And lets not forget the local and national newspapers are all starting to charge for archived articles. There may be more interest in archived articles. Theres an idea….start the content of the block and work backwards in time!

    5. Vic on 19.01.2008 at 23:50 (Reply)

Nnamdi one of the best things is what you are doing right here. Once the folks get to actually know you they will stop being assholes and they will Zoom your stuff and if not do just like they said send them an IM at BZ and say hey WTF? I am sure they will want your support to continue and they will support you back. If not let me know cause I will see who you have Zoomed and I will make a post here again about Self Centered Bitches with names.

Ok, you’ve convinced me, Vic. I’m in. I’ve registered vancouverfamilyfun.com to highlight where to take the kids in this area of 1.5 million people. There’s not a whole lot of competition for this niche either, apparently.

I’ll drop a note on the contact form and see if you have any insight to the current setup of the blog. It’s semi-live now, with only a post or two to speak of.

Cool Rod and look forward to seeing that niche grow.

So far I noticed that almost all the new local niche blogs share the same theme! :P

Btw, thanks, Frank for your prompt reply.

    Hey all!

The local niche support group is up and running with the first submissions on my site. Head on over, check out what I would need from you, and I’ll get it added.

    Okay, I’ve joined the challenge:
    vancouver-press.com (washington)

I would love to hear from anyone who knows how to make these 2 plugins work properly on the blogohblog them:

    ————-related posts————–
    http://wasabi.pbwiki.com/Related+Entries
I’ve manually set it up and have added the code to the single.php page:

    —————————————-

    ———-comment Plugin—————-
    The GBCF-v3 http://green-beast.com

I have gone thru the instructions but am not sure what the following means and how to do it.
Also, not sure if I create a “contact” page and enter some code or if the code is added to the menu.php file or???

    9. Add the link to the style sheet and the focus JavaScript file - for form field
focus effects for Internet Explorer - to the head of your contact form page
(see Figure 1), then add the PHP “include” to the body content area of that
same page (see Figure 2). Go live and worry not.
    ——————————————

The 3rd question I have is:

tag cloud widget. How do you make the tags line up vertically rather than as a “cloud”. an example would be Courtneys Lasik surgery site.. when using the same widget on my News site I get “cloud tags” instead of vertical cloud tags.
    ——————————————

Folks, if you could help me out that would be wonderful. Also, I think it would benefit the entire community. When we search for help on google for these topics it comes up lacking. I think there are other noobs that may need this help but perhaps are too embarrassed to ask.

    Thanks!

Awsom and welcome. Ok this is the deal an no worries this week alone I have had over 20 emails with problems with this plugin.

First this plugin is not activate and you are done. Once you activated on the same Plugins page you will see on the selection menu an option that says Related Posts Options click on that and scroll to the bottom you will see a message that says:

      SQL Index Table Setup

If this is your first time installing this plugin you will have to run this script (opens a new window) in order to create the index table required by the plugin. If this fails, please refer to the readme on how to create it manually.

Now if this fails please let us know what host you use, because I have seen Hosting related problems with this plugin.

Ok the -comment Plugin question I am confused because you mention contact page.

The tag cloud widget has to do with the CSS of your theme. SO depending how it is setup is how you will see it, if you want to change it you have to change the CSS

I am having a lot of fun with my local niche blog, but I am also pulling my hair out trying to get the site set up right. I have spent hours just trying to get the name of my site into the header. I don’t know how mant times I have had to re-install the header php to straighten it back up. As far as the plug-n I have them installed and activated but get a lot of error messages. I am using WP 2.3.1.

Well, my local market is Portuguese, it completly SUCKS!! Unfortunally local niche it’s something that will not result here. And making local niche for other countries it’s very hard, since we not live there.

That’s maybe good for you Vic. But my case no one from USA wants to know things from here :) Unfortunally many from usa think you’re a province of spain :)

Hey guys and gals, what’s up?

I’ve been checking this blog out for about 4 days now. What I’ve done is create a special section for it in my favorites called “The absolute best blogs”…and this is the only blog in it.

Vic, I like your style and i can’t get over how you go out of your way to help everyone. Offering to look at peoples blogs and using skype…totally incredible!

And everyone who comments on your posts are really cool too. i like it here.

I couldn’t get anything indexed in 6 minutes no matter what I did. Everyone else can but me? WTF?? Maybe it’s because I tried to do it with a 3 day old blog on blogspot.

Anyways, I want in on all this good stuff going on here…I’m going to review your blog on my crappy blog and join the group.

    1. Dinheiro on 21.02.2008 at 21:21 (Reply)

It takes time Chris, and you need to create backlinks, a post it’s only indexed in 6 minutes, if your blog has some age and some number of posts well ranked. Keep working, workin
