Opinions Are Like Assholes Everybody Has One

Now since I have an asshole, I also have an opinion. Monetization is tied deeply to what your niche is. For example using Adsense on a “How to Make Money Online” site is idiotic but having Adsense on a “How to Kill Ants” site is extremely profitable.

So the first thing we need to look at is what type of website I own and what type of readers will be coming to my site.

Will this site be a representation of me or will this be a generic site?

This is crucial because this is totally tied to credibility. If I am running a generic blog where the author is “admin” or “Joe” I will only be considering the niche and what ads I will be running for profitability. If the site is like Blogger Unleashed I will limit my advertising to products that I have direct knowledge and I am a customer of these products. In other words you will not see me here Advertising SHIT, but in a generic site I really do not give a fuck because I am all about getting paid. Not only do I use all the products you will see advertise here at Blogger Unleashed but they are actually crucial if you are serious about making money online. The last thing I want, is have some one that bough a product that I advertise here say “Gee, Vic really fucked me with this” .

The study I asked you to read had two things I wanted you to see. The first is that people hate advertising and number two the same things that where true in 2004 are pretty much the same today in 2007. Now if people hate advertising so much how can we be making money online. Because if you focus your advertising correctly you can take advantage of peoples habits and genetic trademarks.

Making Money with SPAM EMAIL does not work.

People do not fall for that anymore. If this statement was true why would we still receive hundreds of spam emails a day? Because it does work, spam is all about the numbers. A SPAMMER does not send one hundred emails he sends millions. So the higher your unique hits the higher the higher chance you have of some one clicking your ad. Notice I did not say higher page views I said higher unique hits.

This will go against what you have read at the so called experts sites. The more sticky your site is the lower your CTR will be. In other words the higher your avg page view is the less people will click your ads. This is why the “How to Make Money Online” niche it is worthless to have Adsense. Your CTR in this niche will always be disgusting. I really will not debate this. If you are not making 10k a month and have had a site with over 40k hits a day I really do not want to hear what the fuck you think you know because you know shit. I will repeat this the higher your page view per unique hit the lower your CTR.

This is why MFA spam sites are so profitable. Example: In my days when I belonged to the dark side, I would have mortgage MFA spam site with 80% markov and I would get CTR in the 30% range. Think about that 30%! Now my avg page view was mmmm 1. This why the CTR is so high because the information is so fucking worthless that they are looking to leave the site as soon as the read the first sentence. Now they found your my MFA spam site because they where looking for mortgage information now because I am a really good spammer all my adsense ads will have HIGH CPC MORTGAGE ADS. Think about it, they went to my site with a need. I did not provide a solution for there need, so when they are ready to click out they will still be looking for that mortgage information, guess what will be easier, for them to close your page and do another search or just click on that beautiful adsense ad he has on his dominant eye with a nice eye focusing color saying MORTGAGE! .

What applies in the real world applies to the virtual world.

A good car salesman will welcome you to his dealership, he will ask you to sit and he will start asking questions. The questions are usually the same.

1. Are you looking for a car, truck or van?
2. What colors do you like?
3. What options are a must?
4. What car are you driving right now?

There are more questions but I just want you to focus on these. What he is doing is getting enough information so he can go pick the car he will sell to you. A bad car salesman will walk with you through the lot. A good car salesman knows that the more options he gives you the more chances are you will leave his lot with out buying a car. I will not wait for you to choose I will tell you what you will buy.

THE MORE ADS YOU HAVE ON A PAGE, THE LESS CHANCES YOU WILL HAVE FOR SOMEONE TO CLICK ON THEM!!! I WILL NOT DEBATE THIS! AGAIN DO NOT COME AND SAY IT IS NOT LIKE THIS WHEN YOU ARE NOT MAKING ANY FUCKING MONEY!!! I AM!!!

It is not about how many ads, it is what ads and how well you place them that will determine how well your advertising campaign works.

Let me let you look at how I think and monetize. Here at Blogger Unleashed you will see one ad on the sidebar. I decided on Host Gator because they have a 1 cent offer on new accounts. This is helpful for the noob who is just starting out. Host Gator also offers unlimited domain Hosting for as low as $7.95 again this is perfect for the noob or the person that will be building sites for trickle traffic and not StumbleUpon or any traffic that has burst. Host Gator shared Hosting is not good for spike traffic, they will cancel your account for resources at a heart beat. But for the new guy it is the best company to go with, there servers are really reliable. And there support is quite good. Once you have the demands of real traffic especially burst traffic I recommend Rack Force by far the best company I have used.

Now I have one 468×60 on top of the post under the title and I have another 468×60 under the post. At this moment I have the same product for both. I chose Auto Social Poster again because it is a product that a serious niche blogger has to have, and again it is a product I use. Frank asked how you run one hundred blogs this is part of it, each blog promotes itself on auto pilot.

In the front page under the first post there is another 468×60 for Mass Account Manager. Again if you are a serious niche blogger that is looking to make real money you need automation how do you think I was able to make 200 MFA sites in one day?

The last ad is a 300×250 inline post left bottom. This ad is for BANS. I used to buy domains because a name would come to my mind but did not have time to develop it so I would do like most of us ignorant domain business fuckers and would park it on a revenue sharing domain. MY OH MY WHAT A DUMB FUCK I WAS!!!! I was very skeptical about BANS in the beginning but since it was ClickBank product that I could request a refund if it was shit, I went ahead and bought it. Now it is my favorite tool when I buy a domain and do not have time to develop it, I just throw on it a BANS site, and in less then 15 minutes I have a moneymaker.

Mike and Jason both made some comments that I will address in this post even though I will keep explaining in detail how to proper perform a website monetization in later post.

You have to decide if your are blogging for money or blogging to have fun and build a large community of followers. If you decide that you want to build a site for money you have to face the fact that you will lose some readers because of your ads. AND I DO NOT WANT TO HERE HOW GOOD CONTENT WILL KEEP THEM YOU CAN GO FUCKING STARVE YOURSELF WITH THAT THEORY!. You will find people that will actually have rules on websites they visit, if it has more then one ad he will click out some will not even look at a website with an ad. Now if you are just blogging because you love it and you want to build a following on a subject than do not advertise period. Studies have proven that sites that do not have advertising have higher page views usually on 2to1 ratio. But if you are in the middle where you would find it great to at least cover the Hosting expenses or want to make money in a less in your face way I will provide two quick options.

Do review advertising. It has being proven to provide more sales anyway. In other words instead of having 100 ads in your page do not have any ads what so ever and do a review of a service or product and use the affiliate link. The key to this method is to only promote good quality products, again trust me if they buy the product and it turns out to be shit guess who will be blamed. Now in your side bar make a widget that says reviews and place your best reviews here. Also make a category for the reviews and make sure you make a nice image or banner that attracts people to that category. Example you can make a CLICK HERE ad like the one that is the top of this site but instead of saying click here it says REVIEWS or WHATS NEW or what ever. This follows the friend rule, if you have a friend that is an accountant and you have an accounting question who do you call? You call your friend. Here you will be the friend that knows what ever your niche is. Do not be afraid or feel bad about placing your affiliate link. At the end of the day the fact that you send them to your affiliate link will not cost them a penny more they will pay the same price let it be with your link or not.

The second is use one ad per post inline. So when some one comes to your site the first time to the index they see no ads. But when they read a post the find one ad in each post at the bottom part of the post in inline left. Now the credibility side again will come to play so you will only advertise a product you believe yourself to be of value, something you have used before do not advertise something you do not know what it is, it will bite you in the ass if a reader gets burned by the company.

Examples for the movie niche:

Live Free or Die Hard - Now Available

Rise of the Silver Surfer

Ocean't 13 - Available Now!

I would think that properly placed this ads will not be that much in your face. Now keep in mind that this niche has good CTR but horrible CVR so always be aware of that.

Now before you even think about placing ads. Wait for my next post where we will discuss ad software. Trust me you do not want to be adding ads to each individual post this will come and bite you in the ass big time down the line.

Opinions Are Like A**H**** Everybody Has One | Blogger Unleashed…

This post start the discussion on monetization. This topic is really tough to take on as there are so many ways of doing things. Also there are so many things to take into consideration when it comes to monetizing a site. This will just be the start as…

Mike and Jason sit with baited breath, waiting for your advertising software blog :)

Mike I am on it right now LMAO. With my ADD I write a bit and move on down my to do until I get back to the post so when a normal person writes a post in minutes I take two hours LMAO.

Let’s take a look at my “Big Honkin’ Ad” experiment on OpTempo. I have about 100 ads in rotation right now and I’ve gotten a fairly even distribution of views per ad. Unlike the 125’s I was using, these ads are getting click-thrus

The ads getting the most click-thrus are the T-shirt ads (8% CTR), the iClipArt ad (4.4% CTR) and the check ads (6.6% CTR). Of course, the CTR on the TShirt ads might just be guys clicking through to see if there are more pictures of the cute model. :)

My inclination is to cut the rotation back to 2 rather than 4 ads per page and only have these ads in it. Does this make sense.

Hey Frank I love a guy who tracks stats. I have always said if you do not do this there is no way to make corrections. What is your overall CVR and which one is your best. This would be more helpful in looking at what choices to make for example. Lets say that you have the T-shirts at 8% CTR but yet you only have a 10% CVR but yet your iClipArt ad (4.4% CTR) is at 25% CVR then I would take down the higher CTR. Now one of the things you will notice is that when you decide to cut down on the displays your overall CTR will rise.

My main blog will remain ad free for the time being. Ads really take away from what we are trying to do there.I had already decided to start seperate sites for seperate purposes. Again, lots of good info without the sugar coating. I got pretty tired of reading posts by people that haven’t actually made any money yet. I was starting to wonder who crapped in your cornflakes this morning, though :)

    1. Vic on 14.12.2007 at 17:10 (Reply)

Hey Tim LMAO yeah my bad I guess I went over board. I just did not want this to become a debate on what people think it is, I know so I do not have time to go there.

I love your thinking Tim. As you noticed this is my first not looking to make money site. This is my have something to say site. I also got tired of getting my comments deleted at other sites when I called them out on there bullshit.

That is the best way to go have your site that you want to keep sweet and clean and then go for the money on a niche. There is nothing wrong with that.

This is a real kickass post, Vic. You’re on a roll with your postings lately, wonder where you find all the energy to keep rolling. But then you have all the experience behind you to kick some butts with eye-opening tips and such. Good advice all round, although your language is a bit…hmm, out of the world! But who cares, so long it’s all useful information or at least something to prick the mind.

  6. Markk on 14.12.2007 at 19:27 (Reply)

Oh,btw, the first sentence in your intro is a real classic. One of the best I’ve ever come across. Cheers.

      LMAO Thanks Markk

    Vic,

This is the most refreshing monetization tip that I have ever read, but so unfortunately, I can’t implement what you just taught at present (or maybe could I?)

The fact is, traffic to my blog is at, what can be called, a miserable level, to have any positive effect.

I was really hoping I would read some traffic building tips first, implement it, see my traffic grow, THEN, learn about monetizing.

Whatever it is, I have saved this article for future reference.

    Thanks!

Costa I started an SEO series today because of your comment I will also start something new tomorrow that might help you.
