Multiple Income Streams

by Vic on March 16, 2008

As you folks know I have said this over and over again. In order to safe guard your livelihood on the net you need to make sure you have multiple income streams. After Justin made the comment about the loss of one of his sites and his suggestion to make a vlog about this same subject I decided to do so.

In this Vlog I discuss what multiple income streams I use and the reasons behind it.

The Multiple Income Streams theory has been applied for years in traditional ways. Many real world investment strategies are totally built around Multiple Income Streams so why not apply the same to your online business.

Internet marketing, also referred to as online marketing or Emarketing, is the marketing of products or services over the Internet this is all part of Multiple Income Streams. The Internet has brought many unique benefits to marketing including low costs in distributing information and media to a global audience. The interactive nature of Internet marketing, both in terms of instant response and in eliciting response, are unique qualities of the medium.

I too love Squidoo. I learned most of my stuff from Tiffinay Dows Book. I read a lot of stuff also from Squidoo Queen. I have better luck getting ranked from Squidoo than from any other source. I do not have much luck pushing affiliate products however. Once in a while I might get a Clickbank sale. Just like my Blogger Unleashed Review lens. It was easy to get to first page for and drive some traffic to your page but all I ever make off most of my lenses is from Adsense which isn't much as you may know.
I see you have BloggerGenerator listed under your tools. I have this also but I have never relly had any success in using it. Like BMD I probably am using this all wrong also. Do you use BloggerGenerator for backlinks? Or redirects?

Vic, you are priceless. At the end of your video I was cracking up. When you talk about Caroline Middlebrook and Bryan Clark it is the most hilarious thing ever. Thank-you for your candor and sincerity. I can't wait for your next video.

Also I have a question about setting up multiple niche sites. I have shared hosting with Dreamhost. But I beleive if I have too many domains off of the one ip address there is some kind of penalty.

Should I purchase a couple of other inexpensive shared hosting plans and split things up? I know this has been talked about before, but I'm a little unclear on the topic.

    Thanks, Emma

    Happy Belated B-Day Vic!

Funny you mentioned the Google/Standard Oil/Microsoft thing. Some investors are getting scared about the possible Microsoft/Yahoo merger. Given that both companies rather clueless about search and contextual advertising, I think the investors' worries are overblown. I'm still concerned about Google having government problems at some point though.

Good video. You wouldn't happen to be a Napoleon Hill fan too, would you?

    Happy belated birthday Vic!

I like the way you are "forcing" people to really think about multiple income streams. It's like any investment: don't put your eggs in the same basket. :D

And the old saying is still true: It takes money to make money. Real or virtual.

I'm working on my latest project that I consider a vertical business to 1 Cool File. That's not counting my other niche sites. The funny thing is that I thought of the project while writing my first small ebook. And yes, it has a small traffic section but I recommend them to read your blog(Court's too).

Question: You don't like Entrecard, yet it's on BZ. Is it an experiment?

    Frank C March 16, 2008 at 2:17 pm

Vic is right about having those streams of income. I got burned with eBay sales a couple of years ago because of some policy changes that killed profits for low priced items.

On Entrecard, it's essentially a social blogging widget. It's good for building Alexa numbers to some extent and getting a few marginal links from other users and that's about it. Like other social widgets, it doesn't create monetizible traffic. Plus, due to the high bounce rate, it can get Adsense "smart priced" unless you have organic traffic to offset it or don't show EntreCard visitors Adsense.

I try to make it a habit to utilize 4 different streams for each blog/website I have. It's not only good to ensure future revenue but the variety keeps your pages fresh rather than readers seeing the same stuff day after day.

Vic, you said something about Google Adsense requiring a disclosure or disclaimer…

What's up with that? Is there a link or anything else you can provide about it?

    Vic,

I guess thanks for the honorable mention.:o) However, I have to defend looking at my stats. Can I get you to agree that you know what works and what doesn't? I agree looking at stats does not make me money. However, It tells me what terms are being used to find my site. Where they are coming from? Is the methods I am using to get back links working?

I can't afford the tools you have in your arsenal SEO E, BMD, Keyword E. I do agree as soon as I begin to make money thats where my money will be reinvested.

They say the sign of someone insane is doing something wrong over and over and expecting different results. I have yet the opportunity to know I did something wrong, other than I picked the wrong niche on my first attempt. So, I no way to gauge if I have done enough for a niche and when should I move onto another one.

Again, I know stats does not make me money. However, it does provide the data that tells me what's working and what is not? Do you agree? A measurable success in creating niche sites =money, if I don't have that then I am not successful in SEO. However, looking at stats provides a semblance of hope that the flood gates are about to open and to continue plugging along and building backlinks.
I've got thick skin.. Let me hear it :0)
