Vic, thanks for this, much appreciated! ;)

I would like to ask you a think, i don’t know if this is the right place, and if not, you’re free to remove it, but i would like some insights from you, if possible. The problem is this:

I had 2 new blogger blogs (1.5 months old) that had some rankings for long tail keywords for sometime now. After reading you, and after getting BMD (bookmarking demon), this weekend i began creating links with bookmarking demon like you said and explained. I didn’t nothing “spammy”, created various anchor texts with allways the keywords in it, like the example:
    keyword - blue xpto
anchor text 1 - the perfect blue xpto
anchor text 2 - how to use blue xpto
anchor text 3 - blue xpto versus red xpto
    etc, etc, etc.

I runned the BMD one time, which means about 200 bookmarking sites (scuttle) and then the other ones non-scuttle (this ones mixed with other non-competion sites).
Today i was seeing the rankings and traffic, and for my surprise, the blogs are still indexed (no change), but they loose all their rankings! They only had a few rankings, but now, zero, zero rankings.

Could this be something with google hunting down this kind of backlinks? Could it be a re-ranking process because of the backlinks?
I really don’t know what’s happening, and i’m affraid to use the BMD again.
What do you think about this?
Could it be some kinf of problem?

New sites are up and down in SERPS when new especially when new links show a new site is inside the one year period this is why I do not look at stats for a site sometimes as long as 6 to a year depending on the niche also this is is blogger blogs I do not work blogger blogs one of the reasons is because they are flagged by users as such you really do not know what could be the effect my advice do not look at stats.

    2. YC on 22.04.2008 at 02:06 (Reply)

Do not worry Din. Just keep getting links. Just don’t get greedy. I had a similar experience a while back but it was after awhile. They just drop in and out at times.

  2. Dinheiro on 21.04.2008 at 16:50 (Reply)

Thanks vic. I’m following and mix your advice and grizz advice, so doing BANS and blogger blogs (plus my own hosted blogs).

    1. Vic on 21.04.2008 at 17:31 (Reply)

multiple streams more options is the way to go always remember never alone you always have us close to help ;)

Hi Vic, thanks for the free theme. I do have a question for you. Why do you say “DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL AT OWN RISK” for the comment kahuna software? I’ve never used that tool so I was just curious if I should even bother trying it out. Thanks!

    1. Vic on 21.04.2008 at 17:52 (Reply)

Gerad because I am a paranoid bitch and when I tried to install it it had a pop up saying “Thank You For Purchasing” man I really do not like shit like that but many users here use it and say it works for them in my case I will stick with my trusted commentdemon but I also know many people here are broke and tired of spending money on the latest hyped product by the online gurus so I want to make sure you folks know what options you have.

  4. Troy Duncan on 21.04.2008 at 17:49 (Reply)

I’m about to build my first BANS site to diversify my online income. Thanks for the template.

    1. Vic on 21.04.2008 at 17:53 (Reply)

Troy best of luck and please make sure you read over my whole site and watch all the videos try to bypass the language and you will see and hear the message ;)

    2. Tevin on 21.04.2008 at 22:01 (Reply)

And remember the key. It’s not 1 BANS site you need to make. You need to make several (dozen, a hundred, or more!).

  5. Emma on 21.04.2008 at 19:18 (Reply)

So far I havn’t made any money with my new BANS sites. But I do keep finding things I want to buy as I research my categories. I found a niche that is really cool. I don’t know if it’s a money maker, but I like working on the store pages. I just started using BMD. Everything is pretty simple after the first time. But time consuming.

    1. Vic on 21.04.2008 at 20:57 (Reply)

How many sites how many keyword pers site how many links per keyword and how long?

      1. Emma on 22.04.2008 at 20:04 (Reply)

Just starting out 3 sites 3 keywords 3 days. I was just joking about how I keep finding things I want to buy. I’m hoping to create 5 a day like Jusin said. Probably more on weekends. The beginning has been kind of slow because I had to figure out how everything worked. Thanks for the pep talks about link building.

  6. Frank C on 21.04.2008 at 20:07 (Reply)

Orange highlights seem to attract visitor attention. According to some marketing gurus it encourages alertness and activity.

How much impact on CTR do you think the site logo has? Does one need a fancy custom logo or will simple photo do just as well in your experience?

    1. Vic on 21.04.2008 at 20:56 (Reply)

I had about a 18% CTR difference to the second place but I think it is not only with color more with the short header because I also have this on blue and green and it was preatty much the same just need to upgrade those templates to V3 this is why i have not posted them here.

  7. Ray on 21.04.2008 at 20:42 (Reply)

    Vic,

Thanks for the template, I actually had made one where I decreased the size of the header to 780 by 50 to get content closer to the top of the fold.

BTW, I made my first few bucks out of BANS, and I gotta tell you are absolutely right when you say “The object is to get visitors to click through to eBay”. Once on eBay they will usually by something. My visitor click on one of my BANS site that promotes very expensive industrial machines, but they bought something really inexpensive. I am sure it also works the other way around.

I am very excited about BANS and thank you for the guidance.

    Regards

    1. Vic on 21.04.2008 at 20:58 (Reply)

The important thing is to keep building and also make sure you focus on keywords that have a need who cares about traffic care about traffic that buys ;)

  8. John on 21.04.2008 at 22:21 (Reply)

    Hey Vic,

I like your “BloggerUnleashed Live” but I have to admit, for those of us who have jobs & don’t have access the net all day, I REALLY like your videos more. The videos allow me to view them when I am online, and I find that I LEARN so much more from them than the online chat.

Perhaps you could do the videos for educational purposes, and then do the chats to answer comments & questions. That’s my personal choice.

    Thanks.

    1. Vic on 21.04.2008 at 23:19 (Reply)

John no worries I have not changed anything the channel is for more quick questions and answers the training videos will not stop but you must remember this site does not pay the bills and I still have 150 BANS sites to upgrade so I have had to take the time to do so remember by the end of the months I need to be transferred to EBN from CJ

  9. Don on 22.04.2008 at 00:33 (Reply)

Vic I have focused on getting sites up, I think I have near 50 now, but a question , do you builf them start to finish? or go back to them later , I ve been getting the basics up but now need to go back and “fix” them.

For the record, anyone who thinks htis is not work, I have some swamp land in Florida for saels and we need to talk, The caveat , I loving what im doing and doing what I love. Damn as long as some of my comments get maybe I should just do a post here!

Really need ot get that skel. thing working
    Don

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 01:31 (Reply)

Don no especially when I get bulk domains I do a quick 3 keywords and move on I just want to get them up as soon as possible to get agin then I go back and narrow and fix what ever needs to be tight. And well said my friend who ever thinks they do not have to work is mistaken no 9.95 ebook that will give the magic formula on how to make millions ;)

      1. lissie on 22.04.2008 at 01:43 (Reply)

Just being slow here Vic: you get the basic site up - do you do the BMD promotion as well, or do you get them all up first and then promote?

        1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 02:22 (Reply)

  10. lissie on 22.04.2008 at 01:39 (Reply)

I am so excited my first BANS - up a week is now indexed in the big G! Question: I have done 3 scuttle runs and 3 premium runs (spaced over the weeks) also written articles on my own blogs (PR2), hubpages, squidoo, qassia, etc. The only backlinks I see on Yahoo explorer are from the “real” sites rather than the BMD runs : does it just take more time for these to show: or does it entirely depend on KW selection?

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 02:23 (Reply)

Backlinks take from hours to a year to show just keep building

  11. YC on 22.04.2008 at 02:13 (Reply)

It will take time lissie, and there’s no fixed rule as to how long. Stop checking whether they are showing up or not and use the time to get more links or build more sites. :)

    1. lissie on 22.04.2008 at 02:16 (Reply)

But I want it NOW NOW NOW :D

      1. YC on 22.04.2008 at 02:47 (Reply)

I understand. So do I. And once in a while I also fall into it. You’re not alone, lissie. :) But we cannot control these things. Especially with backlinks I can tell you the thing is so unpredictable sometimes they’re there sometimes not so at the end of the day why bother looking. Just try to cast your net as far and wide as possible and take what you can. ;)

It’s like in sports betting. Many bettors love to watch the games unfold with their wagers on the back of them. Most want to make money, but many also love the rush. In a baseball game, there are at least nine innings. Most bettors start getting worried if their team goes down 1-0 in the first inning, when there are still 8 more to go. Ok, not the best example, but…

      2. lissie on 22.04.2008 at 03:30 (Reply)

Its actually like real estate too : some people get fixated on each years valuation (probably a New Zealand thnig): OMG my house went down $5k ROTFL. At the end of the day you have to aim for the big picture. Hopefully I don’t have to commit to a 7-10year time frame to see the $ roll in though :D

        1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 03:47 (Reply)

Yeah thats right we talked about that. Lissie just make sure you follow the steps on the video I know you got your regular job and it sucks when we try to do all this stuff we do when we got a regular job so the important thing is to focus on what we can control and just move on on what we cant getting links counted is a bitch we are all at G’s mercy so best bet si to keep building and getting links one day G counts them and we get paid ;)

    2. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 02:23 (Reply)

      Right on the money!!!

  12. Gus on 22.04.2008 at 03:43 (Reply)

    Hi vic,

In regards to keywords…No Keyword Elite yet but I have found some other free tools that give number of searches and different long tails.

    Just need an affirmation here.

It is better to find keywords that have less number of searches on search engines but less competing sites….Right?

When it comes to dealing with competition, how many sites in the SERPS is it wise to compete with from the start?
    Less than 500,000?
    less than 100,000?
ok, obviously the fewer the better but what whould you suggest we start working with when picking keywords for a BANS site?

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 03:49 (Reply)

Gus I do not look at competition count anymore I focus on what is on the first page example passtweek I was doign some research and came on a realy good l;ong tail I wanted to work had 21 million in competition but position one was a weak PR2 with shitty backlinks so in reality all the results where showing because of the combination of keywords I had so in short I got position one already ;) Focus more on the competion in the ranking vs how many we are competiting

      1. lissie on 22.04.2008 at 03:55 (Reply)

Interesting approach : do you use yahoo explorer for backlinks?

        1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 04:04 (Reply)

          SEOElite

      2. Chris Digital Products on 22.04.2008 at 06:35 (Reply)

Vic, I found this comment very interesting and enlightening. I’ve been thinking about this for a while. We know that links=money because G likes links. Simple enough. There are other factors that come in to play in ranking but links kick ass right? But I notice more and more often these days that sometimes the top ranking sites are a model of shit seo yet they rank #1 for whatever niche it might be.

        You said this,

“21 million in competition but position one was a weak PR2 with shitty backlinks so in reality all the results where showing because of the combination of keywords I had”–this made me think…if 21 million results show for your keyword it must still be a popular search (?) but some shit site was ranking #1. It’s still 21 million results.

The thing that kills me is that you already have the #1 spot. WTF? It takes a while for the links to get counted so even if you are linking like crazy it’s gonna be a while before they show up right? So then wtf did you do to stomp that shitty pr2 site?

Long question…I apologize, but for me this hits upon an interesting and instructive subject that I think can help us to better understand seo.

        1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 12:17 (Reply)

Pre-owned domain with solid active links including a PR5. Now I already owned a 2 year PR4 niche related with instant indexing so I through an anchor from a 7 month old post which got indexed in 3 days. This is why so important for all of you to built your link farms ASAP ;)

  13. lissie on 22.04.2008 at 04:03 (Reply)

Sorry for the multiple comments: I just found 1 of my kw that there are 2 parked domains on the front page for my long tail : including the dot com version of my dot info : I am too excited now to be at (offline) work!

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 04:05 (Reply)

LMAO I am telling you I love targeted keywords most people do the natural thing which is to go for the top level keyword meanwhile us that know are raking in the money with the leftovers LMAO!! ;)

  14. Gus on 22.04.2008 at 04:06 (Reply)

    thanks man

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 12:17 (Reply)

      No problem ;)

  15. lissie on 22.04.2008 at 04:08 (Reply)

Thanks so much Vic- it just wonderful having this site to affirm that Im on the right track! When are you coming to Perth, Australia : I owe you a beer or a wine or in fact the how bloody smorgasbord!

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 12:19 (Reply)

LMAO I am glad the info helped and I sure look forward to visiting you and Monika and having a beer.

  16. Gus on 22.04.2008 at 04:14 (Reply)

Vic one more question….how many directory submissions are enough for every site. 10 PR5? 20PR4?…or just the more the better…just like articles. Get them and move on kinds thing.

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 12:19 (Reply)

Gus I will talk this on a video cuz I need to explain something.

  17. antbanks on 22.04.2008 at 05:07 (Reply)

since we are on the template topic. VIC how come i cant get a pic to be my background. i got .gif and .jpg. i looked for the body background in the css but it always stays gray. is it hard to go at it the way you do it from scratch. i’ve been using the color my BANS store tool. but its still lame. what am i doing wrong. i put the pic in the image folder, sorry this css thing is all new.
thanx for the seo tip; long tails and SEO Elite.
oh can you explain the paintball template or was that from scratch. -this post is for all in the know please help

    1. ManuelV on 22.04.2008 at 11:00 (Reply)

BANS pic in the background? Try saving the image as bg.png, and save this in the images folder.

  18. James on 22.04.2008 at 09:18 (Reply)

    Hey Vic,

Just curious if u use images in your header (like a dog on a dog food one etc) and how u find this is on your conversions?

And if u do this do u just upload the logo in the BANS menu?

Got a few BANS sites up now. Doing a few BMD runs.

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 12:21 (Reply)

I have some sites that do not only have an image but also the regular larger header I am switching my BANS to this format because I think it distracts less the visitor and he clicks over faster.

      1. Frank C on 22.04.2008 at 13:10 (Reply)

So, we’re back to a counter-intuitive format. Don’t make it look like a fancy store front but make it kind of ugly and plain to encourage the click-thru to eBay, right? ;)

        1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 13:48 (Reply)

Yeah it’s working for me amazing how the basics are always right ;)

  19. Paul B on 22.04.2008 at 13:03 (Reply)

Vic, quick question. When you are looking at the backinks for a site in a position you want, are you looking at the backlinks of the domain or the page that is indexed on the serp? Ie im seeing lots of of results on the serps with 0-10 backlinks for the page but the actual domain has a few thousand. So im guessing they have the rank by domain authority, is this something i cant beat? Thanks Paul B

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 13:49 (Reply)

If you see no solid anchors for the term you are researching the reason they are in the position is because of the domains overall authority as soon as you start getting the anchors counted you will over take ;)

  20. Gus on 22.04.2008 at 16:29 (Reply)

Hey Vic. All these comments have some great info. Cant stop comming back.

What I am having problems with however is finding good longtail keywords…or at least getting the methodology of doing so down packed. It really takes up time…

Could someone correct me if I am wrong?

So for BANS the methodology for finding a keyword is:

Find a product category on ebay, more products more bids the better

Find variations of the product keywords…longtail variations. Ideally with less competition and more queries

Do a searc and check out the page 1 competition and see if they have backlinks with the keyword you want to compete. If they do then it will be more difficult since those are the “good” backlinks.

Find 3 keywords per site and get backlinks with those keywords.

Please correct me if I am approaching this the wrong way.

    Thanks

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 17:52 (Reply)

This method was explained by Justin and I endorse it for the total new person it gives you a starting point but once you learn and master keyword selection you will find keywords and then monetize that keywords with the right monetization.

  21. Hi Vic,

    thanx for the template.

According to Ebay stats, I’ve made $26.50 in commissions from one site already!! woohoo!

to answer anthill’s question about images in the background, use the following in the style.css file:

    body#background {

    background: url(’images/myimage.gif’);
    }
put the myimage.gif in the images folder.

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 17:52 (Reply)

Thanks for the css help I am just slammed right now with work ;)

  22. Vic,

how about a deep maroon on black background theme for a romantic gifts site?

& some generic colors like olive green on pale yellow, orange on red/yellow, red/yellow, yellow/sky blue, etc.

    thanks!

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 21:31 (Reply)

I will put it on my list ;)

  23. How come the title has disappeared in your template?

am i supposed to upload a logo image or should I figure out how to add in the text?

    1. Vic on 22.04.2008 at 21:32 (Reply)

I removed it just open the logo file and make your own name with any graphics program.

  24. Kinsey on 23.04.2008 at 01:37 (Reply)

ok. Finally got my first BANS site up. But first I inadvertently bought myself 2 hostgator reseller accounts. OW. Then pages kept disappearing and there were no apostrophes in there. OW. I finally just redid them and deleted the old ones.

Going to go get a few more BANS sites up to get the hang of it. Then next purchase - BMD. More learning OW coming, I’m sure ;)

  25. Chris Digital Products on 23.04.2008 at 04:43 (Reply)

Vic, when I do a BMD run on scuttle, and tag each url say with 10 keyword related tags…are those tags going to appear as anchor text in SEO Elite when I look them up in a few months from now? That’s how we accumulate our desired anchors with BMD? Or is it just the title (that you enter in BMD for each url) that produces the desired anchor text…or both?

By the way, it seems as though quite a few of us now are in the process of getting BANS up. You must be happy to see your students moving forward as a group.

Are you going to make “blogger unleashed” certificate of completion awards? :)

  26. Greg C. on 23.04.2008 at 19:06 (Reply)

    Thanks for this.

You know what, good BANS .info domains are still WIDE OPEN. I know because ever since the current 99 cent domain sale I have been averaging 40-50 new domains a DAY. I already picked up some for my current niche before I came across this blog with all the BANS suggestion. Now thinking in terms of BANS I started doing research and kept finding more and more domains in ebay niches. I use mine for more than just BANS sites, though. But 100 BANS sites will be no problem.
