Niche Changes
by Vic on February 8, 2008
This is a serious emergency post. Folks the last few days a few blogger friends of mine and me have suffered some weird blog de-listings on certain niches. Well really one type of niche anything financial related seems to be affected. Now we are not sure what is happening if a new flag system was implemented in the algorithm or if it has to do with MFA reporting.
This is what I recommend folks. It is all about the footprint. To many niches are using the same theme, I would start using themes that are mainstream in other words themes you see real legit blogs using. I would add contact forms feedburner feeds archives etc etc etc in Other words folks make the blog look as legit as possible I would even go as far as make an about page. In your about page use a photo you can find PLR photos for real cheap. Invent persona’s do not use your real info.
Do not put adsense on a brand new domain wait at least 60 days. Do not put fucking 500 ads big time giveaway. If you do get de-indexed request re-inclusion but before you do make sure you make all the changes I just mentioned and make the site look like a normal daily blogger. ALso make some post and do not keyword stuff make them look like normal post.
If it is a brand new domain do not build a niche from offset build a BANS site for like 3 months and get links for the index Google seems to now care on BANS site I guess they figure that BANS sites provide solutions for Google searches.
I know the last few weeks it has been hard either to reach me or for me to participate here or other forums. I beg your patience as we are in the process of unveiling just huge upgrades to Blogging Zoom and trust me you folks will hugely benefit of what we are about to do. We also feel it will take Blogging Zoom to the way next level. We already left way behind PlugIM and we want to overtake Sphinn next and trust me we are way on our way to do so.
I know I need to make the OpenAds post which I will tomorrow but for now this was way more important as it could greatly reduce your adsense income.

Great tips, Vic. Keeping the MFA's alive
Crap, stupid auto-fill adding in my email in the wrong place…
I've noticed people doing searches for "using k sniper" etc. Not sure who's doing it of course, but somebody's taking a look at themes used for niches.
Yeah I will talk to Court
I noticed the "K sniper" searches also, and no disrepect to Court or anyone, but I usually remove the credit line, or at least hide it on some of my sites.
Great points Vic. I have put those suggestions into effect, so I need to look into new themes.
Maybe you or Court could write a post on what SEO/niche site changes you would recommend for a niche site blog to optimize SEO for any theme used?
Yeah I will talk to Court about this again I do not know if this is site wide or just financial niches it would be great to know if this is a flag or a manual reporting problem
It's not just financial blogs, it is others in different niches too. Actually I have a financial blog that is a little over a month old through blogger.com, I am 7th on the first page of google for the keyword. But it should be noted that the financial blog is very active and I post anywhere from 5-15 times each day since it is about the stock market. My blogs that are niche oriented and based on sniping, all have lost there listings in the last week and none of them are financially based.
The finacial blog's post are slow to get indexed though as somone mentioned earlier….some of my post from a week ago are just now showing up. Something has for sure changed with google and blogs..
Vic,
Thanks for posting! I thought everyone left town. I haven't seen any updates on the "Three Musketeers" sites for a couple of days.
Maybe This is why some of my templates look all screwed up. I have been using Courts SEO templates.
Hope to hear more from everyone soon.
Denise no worries remember we do not support our families with this sites so we have to tend to business and with over 200 sites it gets complicated. Also at least in my case I am deep in the Blogging Zoom upgrade which will be huge
Your right about the finance thing Vic, one of my new blogs only a few weeks old dealing with money dropped weird and it's using k sniper. It should have improved with all the back link work.
Yeah we really need to get down to this problem again if it is another competitor he is probably doing a specific search term and the reporting the site if it is a flag then it would supposed affect every site using the theme and this has not happened.
I am concerned. Maybe it's where I'm at, but I've noticed that when I do searches for keyword strings that I get traffic on, going to page 6 I can't find my entry. Some stuff is still there, but enough is gone for me to wonder. Maybe I got sandboxed…
Desty brand new domains it is what it is as soon as you start getting a bit good traffic you will be sent to the box.
Thanks for the heads up Vic,
Maybe that explains why one of my nicely aged domains with a niche blog built wasn't indexing even when I tried the fast indexing trick with an unindexed title and pinging. Its been a few weeks now and today I finally got one post (not the homepage) to index (woo hoo!).
I wonder whether Google have been reading Griz's posts LMAO! and are checking out all Blogger blogs with the minima white theme too – I've been creating dozens of the bloody things in some niches and trying to get them to index with unindexed titles and pinging but not one of the damn things has indexed!
On a positive note, the only things I can get to index in the niche I'm working are Squidoo lenses – so there's a tip for anyone wanting to break into a niche – make some lenses and they will index in about a week or so from creation.
I use them to link out to my sites, so I guess eventually those links will get the sites indexed too.
PS: I just took Elliott's advice and removed the "K Snipe" out of my blogs that use it. As a consolation prize, I kept Court's SEO Internet Marketing School link in there!
Ain't life fun fun fun!
Terry I have over 200 domains and I still build lenses when I get a chance besides the fact how easy they rank mmmmm they are free I am all over free LMAO
Hehe, free is music to my ears! I've noticed lately some of my lenses getting more traffic than usual but no sign of them in the high pages at Google – then I check and its search traffic from Yahoo – check the SERPs and I got a few lenses on page1 Yahoo – so I start thinking hey Yahoo likes Squidoo better than Google now!
SE Traffic is SE traffic and always welcome whichever SE it comes from!
Hmmm, maybe we should call this the "K Snipe Penalty" and call people searching for blogs using this theme "Snipe Hunters".
I've seen indexing become slower on a number of sites though. For example, I'm seeing some posts from the last week of January being finally indexed now. Some posts don't seem to be being indexed at all. Maybe Google's bright young engineers have instituted some algorithm changes between cappuccinos and Wii games.
Yeah we really need to find out what is up. Indexing indeed has slowed down especially for in links it has become a turtle pace.
I've also found that it's taking over a week to get new posts indexed. It's been driving me round then bend and I just keep getting more and more links via article submissions etc. Maybe it's not all my fault after all.
I do have one finance site and it's still indexed. It's only a couple of months old so I don't actually get any traffic from it. I wasn't expecting any either.
I have to this question answered please! When I buy an existing domain name that has expired, is that just like buying a new domain name? Some of the names I brought are 5 or 6 years old but just expired. Anyone?
When you purchase an expiring domain name from, let's say Godaddy, it stays with PR and age, etc. You are just purchasing the name at this point, and also any backlinks, etc. that go with it.
You really need to check out what Google has in it's index as there might be somethings you don't want.
The key is to use the Google Webmaster tools and claim your name by verifying it. this will help clear it up.
Hope that helps!
Yikes! Thanks for the heads up. I just went and checked and it seems that I've gotten deindexed overnight on my one site I was using the K Sniper theme with.
When I checked my stats yesterday afternoon, I ranked 16 for my keyword in SERPs, and now my url is nowhere to be found in Google.
One other thing to note. Blogger.com's spell check feature has not worked in over a week. You would think a company as tech savvy as Google would have this feature repaired by now, but who knows….the may have disabled the feature to discourge people from using blogger, knowing that hardcore bloggers will deal with it and keep posting.
My DayJobNuker blog is nowhere to be found today for any of the keywords.
This happened several weeks ago too. It disappeared for a couple days and then it was back in the same positions it was prior to disappearing.
Now its back off again. On, off, on, off. Google really hates me.
I just checked my listing on Google for my finacial blog and it is still in 7th place on the first page. The post that is showing up today I posted on Jan. 29th. 10 days ago or better…Strange indeed!
I'm seeing older posts ranking for keywords mentioned and linked from a page dedicated to that keyword that won't show up. I just double checked, and more than 1 site has all keyword mentions pointing to the welcome post and a single other post that's more recent, instead of the dedicated posts. It's weird.
Robert,
I've been experiencing this as well just the past few days on one of my other blogs (which has nothing to do with finance). Please let us know if you find out what's up with that.
Yea I know you and I have had a talk about some of this Vic, I want to add something I feel would be important as well to the people in the financial blogging area. First of all, I was trying to see for my financial site being deindexed what the cause could be. Now I have not used the sniper theme others have been using or anything like that, but here is something I just feel might be very important. MAKE A DISCLAIMER PAGE or have one at the bottom of your site.
I have been going through the top sites in google for my niche which by the way you found, DAYJOBNUKER and made a comment on it about looking like a Vic site. LOL!! Please just keep that site to yourself by the way.
But my thought is all the top sites I found had these disclaimers on them whcih I did not have. And some of them even had a information about being licensed for giving financial advice. Make sure you put something like this on your site especially if you are ranking well and looking like an authority figure. I write posts with financial institution names in my posts all the time, and I am not sure if this has something to do with it, but its just way better to be as safe as possible, and then Like Vic said, submit it for reinclusion.
Are you guys refering to being "de-indexed" as in when you check the site:yourdomain.com no indexed pages show up? Or are you just refering to losing your ranking in the SERPS?
Vic , Im looking for a submission from you on the Group Writing Project, LOL,thought you should know, Good stuff as usual
Mike C we are talking about being completely deindexed. No others might be confusing this with having pages missing from Google that were there before. But Vic and myself are speaking directly about doing a check by searching "site:yourdomainname" in Google and everything is gone.
Maybe people are overreacting. I read somewhere a month or so ago that "site:" was being done away with by Google because that's where all the duplicate listing fell.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was. The SEO themes would make de-indexing on the "site:" search that much easier.
Maybe I should ask Matt Cutts directly (keeping all of you out of it of course.
Nope, I was wrong.
According to this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=5…
It seems to me that they're rebuilding or removing the supplemental index. This could all be temporary.
Yep, i'm seeing the traffic for all my blogger blogs went down (from google searchs). But i think this is something temporary, i don't believe it's a deindex issue, two of my blogs are totally original content, they don't have "bad backlinks", and they're deasappearing from google in this last days.
I had never seen the K Sniper theme before. I guess I'll stay away from it.
Miss your posts Vic… when you coming back?
Hey Vic,
You ok buddy? We are start to shake here. We need our Vic fix.
Take it easy guys, Vic is ok for sure. Remember that developing projects takes time, and vic's time is small, and like us he needs to make money. He'll be with us soon, i'm sure.
Hey all,
I talked to Vic, he is fine, just busy restoring all of his sites and working on BZ. He is trying to get caught up still, not only with BZ, but his money sites as well.
Be F(*^(%G Patient! (as Vic would say)
Thanks for the update Elliott
Being Patient is way over rated. You would not say "be patient" to a drowning man, I don't think.
I am glad Vic is OK though. We all were getting a little worried.
Vic, Just pop-in and let us know you are alright once in a while.
Sounds like a lot of people are standing around on the corner of the street waiting for someone to turn up…
Ha! I'm sure we're all using this without-Vic-time to do all the mundane stuff like building content and backlinks and generally further preparing all out myriad of sites (and making new ones) for the day when they'll explode onto page 1 of the Google Machine!
I don't know about anyone else, but I've tried to get into the forum but can't open any of the inner pages – posts I added a while ago look like they never got added either, so apologies if anyone is wondering why I haven't answered anything in there for a while.
If anyone hasn't noticed yet, the quick index trick is no longer working as Google seem to have closed and bolted that handy back door – I joked somewhere that perhaps one of Google's minions read Vic's or Griz's post about it and then made the change – maybe they really did!
So it's back to indexing by linking or article marketing again…
Great points, Terry!
While we all anxiously await our "Vic fix" like junkies, take this time to reread old posts here, at Grizz's site or Courts site as well.
Thar's gold in them thar hills!
Just stick to the basics, build sites, put great keyword rich content on them, promote them through link building, article marketing, etc.
I'm here to tell ya….I can use a couple of more weeks without Vic. I have sooooo much to do to catch up! Maybe thats because I'm doing fifteen sites!
But I do check the site every day so I don't miss anything.
If anyone can help I need a BZ article zoomed. Mirol submitted one of my articles and its dead in the water right now. Right now the article is on the lower right under saved.
"Marketing the house for sale"
I guess thats one of the problems with others submiting posts. But, I'm happy he did.
I think I know how to get article indexed fast if you could contact me offline.
Has anyone had success with BANS or Back posted adsense articles?
@Elliot, did you get my comment about linking to BZ submitted instead of BZ profile? I go in once a week to the Local Niche Group page and zoom everyones articles from that list.
Yep, got the message, and will get it updated as soon as I can.
I think I will add it as another option link instead of in place of the link to the main profile.
BTW, I have no problem at all in forum. I am using firfox with popup blocker on.
BTW, to the second power! Griz has a great article on SEO that I thought was very eye opening. If you go to this months article on Making money with adsense, the link is in that article. After reading it I changed my blog theme code, and it made a difference. Thanks GRIZZ!
