Blogging For Money Or Not
By Vic on Dec 15, 2007 in Blogging
A business is a business no matter if it is in the real out side world or in the virtual world but yet for what ever reasons it seems that bloggers being the self centered bitches they are thinks these rules do not apply to them this is more than explained on Court’s post How To Trash Your Blog’s Brand In 5 Easy Steps .
Please name me a business model where you can start with an investment of $20.00 or less and in month be already making $10,000.00 dollars, trust me as a business person I can tell you there are really not that many. Blogging for money not only provides this opportunity but it actually provides much more. But this will only work if you make it so.
Blogging for money or blogging for fame? It amazes me when I see peeps trying to start a blog to make money but yet in reality they are starting a blog to be the next John Chow, they really do not want the money they want the fans and recognition. I have four kids, my oldest just started college, I can not pay for school with fame I need cash for that so I never had a problem writing about ants on a blog under the handle “The Exterminator” because what I need is to make money online not become famous online. Peeps think being famous is the same as making money when it reality it is not. To prove my point one of my favorite actors is more than famous Tom Sizemore about five months ago he was homeless because he had no money to find a home. Now while he walked down the street I can assure you many people stopped him to say hello since he is famous but yet that night he had to sleep in a car because he was broke.
Blogging for money in the niche arena is all about anonymity, blogging for money should be about getting paid not about adoring crowds. Do you think you will be stopped at the next blog expo by a blogger to have a picture taken with you if your blog is about unclogging toilets? But tell you what I can assure you that you are probably making way more money then the so called famous blogger.
So dear friend I ask you, are you blogging for money or are you blogging for the cheering crowd. This is something each individual blogger needs to ask themselves even before you start writing your first post. An online business is a wonderful thing. It is liberating. I enjoy waking in the morning sitting in our backyard drinking my coffee in my shorts and barefoot. Deciding it is time to work and just sit down in front of my computer with the same shorts still barefoot and laugh because a friend like Grizz took my ass on and made a post to prove that he knows what I am talking about and slaps my bitch ass by taking my ranking. Blogging for money should be about just that blogging for money do not complicate things.

But, but, I want to be rich AND famous.
The problem with fame, even within a narrow niche, it that it rarely has staying power. For every Rolling Stones there are 1000’s of one hit wonders who took the ride once and found themselves on the street like Tom Sizemore or Peter Frampton.
Another example, due to my connections with Microsoft I had some very lucrative consulting gigs in the late 90’s and made well into 6 figures. I lost my connections, the dotcom bubble burst, the IRS comes to visit asking for AMT and now I’m making a 5th of what I was making. If I had been more savvy I wouldn’t have bet on niche fame to make me money but on diversifying and protecting my income.
Frank wow really sucks to read a friend went through some shit like that. Diversity is key I think in everything business and financial related. In blogging it is huge.
It’s not about getting into the make money online niche, it’s about taking whatever niche you’re in and using these processes to accelerate your business online.
Amen Desty exactly.
A very interesting topic here. I don’t think I want to be “famous” but I sure wouldn’t mind people liking what I write. I have aspirations to write a book (even have 30 pages of it done), so getting my name out there is something I’d like to do.
But damn, I also want to make money, but with the way you say I could make some money, it’s not the best thing to try and do what I’m doing. Sure, I can slap ads up and maybe make a few hundred coin a month, but nothing major like your Bubalicious site (whatever the domain is, I forget right now
)
The problem is, i only have the time for one really, having a full time job, so being able to do both is out of the question more than likely. There is not not enough time in the day to write posts.
Mike the book you are looking to write is about the same topic as your current niche? The reason I ask is because if you are looking to write a book about the niche I would stay as far from ads as I could.
Hey Vic, why should Mike stay away from ads?
I wasn’t into monetizing, but your posts are making me think I could fire up a few ‘anonymous’ sites over time. I fully realize the other one is just entertainment, and if that is what we want why wreck it.
Tim it is a question of quick gains to long term gains. In the short term he might make great cash but let’s say that he is writing a book what will blend into the niche. If he keeps building a brand on his site it would be more beneficial not to push readers away. Tim there is no doubt that ads will turn some people off. Now with Mikes site this gets more complicated because it has his name in the domain. So if he is writing a book it would be beneficial to establish a brand and loyal readership and when he decides to publish his book he already has a marketing base from his readers.
Tim your best bet is to buy some pre-owned domains and follow my instructions on how to find a good money niche and leave your primary site alone and correct me if I am wrong but your site is tied to your pub? If this is so again I would protect the branding of the domain and make cash with new ones.
Vic,
I am all for making money blogging and sometimes I tend to get over enthusiastic about it that I forget that I am not actually “qualified” yet.
LOL.
Thanks for this. At least I know the majority are for making money from their blogs. I still don’t see any conflicting comments saying making money from blogs is unethical!
Another stumble from me.
Are you kidding? It is all about the money for me. I need money to survive till I die.
I do not want fame. What am I going to be famous for? Being an old gray haired woman who finally learned how to make a buck in her old age. Fat old women do not look good no matter how much money you dress them in.
Keep the fame. Give me the money every time.
i think make blogging your passion and money will follow.
You are fucking clueless, if this is what you really think you will be another broke ass blogger.
“Please name me a business model where you can start with an investment of $20.00 or less and in month be already making $10,000.00 dollars, trust me as a business person I can tell you there are really not that many.”
The lottery. I’d be curious to see a comparison of how well each works? Your reply immediately above mine suggests they probably have about an equal chance of success?
Actually no the math does not support your comment. The odds to win the loto are 1 in 13,983,816 . The odds to make 20k a month with an online business is about 1 in 50k so as you can see the odds are way in favor.
Also you can not control winning the loto but with an online business if you know what you are doing you can replicate the success. The problem is over 95% of people who start an online business have no idea how the internet works.
Every “No Follow” blog is a free backlink, so we’re all making money slowly but surely. Right?
I know it’s kind of corollary to the point of the post, but who IS your favorite actor? If I read it correctly it wasn’t Tom Sizemore? Sorry for the OT, but I am always curious about information left out.
LMAO he is one of my favorites
