Vic,
I live in Singapore and don’t have natural disaster but when bad things happen to families, it happened. Nobody wish that to happen. PB is also in my prayers.
It’s really been quite awhile since I got to know vic, court, justin, frank, YC, lessie, diane, ksc, fairplay and many others who helped me along the way, you all are also in my prayers.
Guys, let give PB some support, let him know he is not alone and stay strong, his family needs him.
Vic, you had done alots for us and humm…. I know by nature, you don’t really mean to say people, just really wanted to help in the bottom of your heart.
Be it I am having success or not, I would like to thanks you and all BU readers at the channel who is giving me the support, I know I am not alone.
God Bless you guys, in my heart!

“Be it I am having success or not,”
You will have success!!!! Just keep working and have a bit of faith in me we will get you to the next level
Truly classy Vic. Props to you on this one. I know we don’t always see eye to eye, but I’m willing to swallow my pride on this one and give thanks where it’s due. This is exactly what PB needed, and that’s support from the community that we have all grown to love.
Send me an email and I’ll put you guys in touch. I’m sure that he could use the work until his job situation gets figured out after the storm passes.
I think the important thing is to look beyond ourselves and try to put ourselves in the shoes of other people and how it would be if it was us or a loved one. Great conversation yesterday
Thank you Vic for posting this and I hope many of your readers show their support for PB and all who are and have been affected by this hurricane. This has already been a brutal season for storms in the Gulf and it looks like it is far from over.
I just returned back online about two days ago due to other issues and this reminds me of what is truly important. I was feeling extremely overwhelmed with what I have to do to and all the posts I need to catch up with. But I guess in the scheme of things I am blessed with what I have and need to remember that more often.
My health is on the mend, I got a computer to work with and I got my home back. But most importantly I still have my loved ones and they are the most important part of my being. I am truly blessed!
Thank you and Bryan Clark for helping PB to have a voice!
Great to have you back online the important thing is we keep all together trying to help eact other succeed
Well done Vic…you said it all right there.
I too have PB and everyone else who is affected by Gustav.
Also, I totally agree that he is one of the best wordpress designers out there! Good job on pointing that out.
God Bless You!!!!
I live here in Louisiana, a few hours from new orleans. My mother works in a nursing home so i’m here. It looks like cat1 or cat2 when it comes through our city(lafayette). Electricity might be out for a few days to a week. Will talk to you and everybody soon.
Joseph
We will have you in our prayers and may the lord keep you and those in the path of this thing safe.
Vic, first time commenter here, but how could I not after seeing this one? That was a powerful video post and much respect to you for opening up like that.
You’ve made it easy to realize how foolish it is to hold grudges and even to go as far as hate other people because of the trivial bullshit that happens in not only “the blogosphere”, but in “real life” as well.
Good on you for pointing out that a person losing everything they have and/or possibly dying is not “Karma for having a spat with another blogger”. It’s a tradegy.
PB, as well as everyone else affected by Gustav are in my family’s thoughts and prayers. Be safe!
Cheers Vic,
Jay
Karma would be having your car breakdown this is so much beyond that and millions will be affected it would be so self centered for a person to think that a two person spat could affect millions.
Vic I think you are on to something - you mention that PB is young - well young to us 40 something’s LOL and I think that is a big deal with risk adversion in the US.
Not to be insulting but the US runs like a developing country in that you don’t have any social safety net if things go wrong - I mean PB is paying $300/night for a hotel room because he is obeying an evacuation order - that stinks to high heaven, he would get free accommodation in school or similar here. My point is that in Australia and elsewhere the only people who are homeless are those with mental ilness or drug problems. If it went pear shaped for me - partner threw me out- I couldn’t get a rental with my current low income then I could sign up and get $200/week or so in benefits - I wouldnt starve, and worst Id end up as a single staying in a hostel (families have priority for state housing).
The consequences about me failing are more about ego and overseas holidays than feeding a family - just like someone in their 20’s - and unfortunately fear of failure is a lot more inhibiiting than trying and failing and trying again.
Jeeze sorry - the point of the comment is that you are probably right - the internet allows people to do things with out considering the consequences to their “customers” because the written word is impersonal - much that I dislike video for learning stuff - its great for credibility and for social blogs - its harder to not be a real person. And while risking sounding like an old fart the average smart IT 20 something geek does not understand that scamming $50 off someone may have huge consequences for the victim - because they don’t have a enough life experience to have been there done that
My respect for you just went another notch up, Vic. Dunno what else to say….
Vic,
“PB” did more than just post on his blog trying to get a rise out of you. He logged into your chat channel and insulted you as well as many of the people in the chat room that night. I was there.
Keep that in mind before you decide to do business with him. Can you really trust someone like that?
PB’s site was up for sale back on Aug. 8th at SitePoint - long before the storm formed.
I know you have a big heart and you like to see the good in people but there are far more deserving people out there if you want to give someone a shot.
I don’t wish him any harm but I don’t think his prior actions should be forgotten. He is a grown man, he knew what he was doing.
Rhonda
It’s strange that people actually returned to New Orleans after Katrina. Common sense would say to move somewhere else.
p.s.I don’t know what PB did btw.
Hi Vic,
I gotta back up Rhonda on this. I would take a double look at someone coming from the “A-lister” crowd. I dont wanna sound too mean about another point, but people that choose to live in a hurricane infested area below sea level, they should realize the risk. Doesnt make any sense to me. I guess thats why I live in the mountains
I do hope that PB and everyone else in Gustov’s path gets to safety.
Very moving video Vic.
I always knew you had a good heart, but so many others thought you didn’t.
As you know, I followed events between you and PB on both sides, because I respect both of you in different ways and just wished that PB hadn’t taken the action he did at the time because it was bound to make him come out of things badly.
And of course this isn’t ‘karma’, because if it was, PB would be taking an awful lot of innocent people along with him which would hardly be right.
As to those who wonder why people continued to live in New Orleans after Katrina, it was their home for goodness sake! It is a place they love. People think emotionally, not ‘rationally’ in these kind of situations. Not to mention the sheer difficulties in setting up a new life elsewhere.
And yes, the PB had been up for sale on sitepoint before this happened, the guy made no secret about this. Yeah, he likes to make a buck too and he tried to follow the ’standard ‘A Lister’ plan. Just like thousands upon thousands of others out there. He had a lot to learn.
Doesn’t detract from the fact that he is an ace designer though.
Vic, you are right, life’s too short to let an argument in the MMO niche, get in the way of people’s lives.
Good for you.
[...] I’ve never read PB’s former blog (which he recently sold), but I cannot stop myself from thinking that maybe other bloggers I read are in the same situation. What I know, is that there are bloggers who pray for PB and for all other people in distress. [...]
As I’ve said before. You are a man of honor my friend. Follow your heart man. It will lead you in the right direction. Lets keep PB in our prayers as well as all those affected by Gustav.
