I used to comment on her blog thinking that she was nice. But I soon had to find out otherwise since she had the audacity to send me her promo emails (collected emails through her comment sections) (I call this Spamming people actually!!!) and she did this without ever commenting on my blog.
This showed me her real face. Now I just feel sorry for all the sheep who follow her blindly.

Hmm… I remember about this eBook but didn’t really take notice of it. I think I have it saved somewhere, not sure though.
What you have said is a real eye-opener… I had no idea. I remembered the hype and all that came out when the eBook was released, and with the large RSS count I only assumed that the author was someone that was making tons off Adsense revenue – had I not had Hosting, it is quite likely I would have gone with her recommendation, and I’m sure others would have been fooled as well.
I’ve written eBooks (to sell & give away) in the past, and personally, my philosophy is that if you cannot show income from the methods you push, they do not work for you, at the very least. Sure, they may be good, but if you cannot earn with them the last thing you should do is sell them.

In November I split up with my partner of 10 years. I wrote the ebook in the middle of that to try and keep my mind off it. It didn’t work too well and I didn’t do any promotion of the ebook until January which is why there was no income in December. I blogged openly about all of this stuff so my regular readers will already know all that.
I can understand your anger. I’m so pissed off when I see that 1800 people are actually reading and probably following that non-sense!!! And those “email campaigns” just drive me crazy! I would never dare to email somebody to ask him to promote something I’ve written. I’d better die with one single reader than bothering people that way. And when I see that it actually works, and people I like and I respect follow Caroline Middlebrook’s emails, this makes me really sad.

About reading your blog. I’ve read two posts on your blog. There was one that was about my ebook and it really helped me actually because after your critique I changed the focus to take the emphasis off the ‘money making’ aspect of it. I have never claimed to have had any success with many money with AdSense or similar, that ebook is about setting up WordPress.
The AdSense ebook that I promote in it, yeah my bad. I forgot it was in there. You are absolutely right about the intention of my ebook – it is there for ME to make money off the people who download it. The thing is, I have never denied that. I have a project page about the book where I discuss the plan for monetization and talk about every detail of the marketing.
Talking of marketing, the email campaigns… You are on the list of blogs in the money making niche. I wrote to about 90 bloggers, most of them were from Marks’s top 100 list at 45n5. I know some of them, others I don’t. I sent the same email about the Easter Egg Hunt to everybody on the list. I did the same thing with previous email promotions.
That’s why my avatar popped up in your blog catalog widget. Also I came here the other day to check Rick’s link and he had linked to the ebook critique post I mentioned above. The second post I have read is this one, well watched.
I do of course have an email alert on my name so yeah I saw this come in my inbox this morning so I came and watched the video just as you wanted.
Okay what else have you talked about? Bluehost. They are my host, I use them for my blog and for a bunch of other sites I have. I promote them because they pay out good and because I USE THEM. I wouldn’t promote hostgator or whatever because I don’t use them.
I’ve always been honest about BlueHost. They sent my blog down for two days last month and I blogged about that knowing that it would probably hurt my affiliate sales with them.
You call me a fake and a liar but I have always been transparent about what I do. I stated quite clearly that I was going to email a bunch of people and where I got their email addresses from. I always say where my income comes from and I don’t try to hide anything.
Lastly, outrank me for my name on Google? Well yeah I know squat about SEO so I’m sure you will if that’s your intention.
I hope you realise Vic that I am not here to fight with you or anybody else. I do what I do, will continue to do what I do regardless of your opinions, name calling, whatever. Caroline you appear quite contrite in regards to your deficiencies when it comes to SEO skills, making money and Adsense. As someone who was happy to help you promote your book (because you asked nicely) I did it but cautioned my readers that it was more about wordpress than making money. You as much as admit that here. I do wonder though why you have no problem asking for help from others and yet you don’t repay the favor.
If you know that you lack certain skills would it not be more honest of you to tell your readers and moreover point them to those that do? I can think of a few who have done you favors and they do know a thing or two about making money, SEO and Adsense. You might think about helping your readers and repaying a few favors while you are at it. Is Monika not someone who could help your readers – how about Vic for that matter?
What exactly are you trying to teach your readers?

I always point my readers to more authorative sources…Court for example is somebody who I regard as a bit of an SEO expert and I regularly link to his stuff.
Let’s not forget the fact that the WP ebook was terriable. It paled in comparison to the information contained in the 5 minute WP installation guide.
I had been working with WP for less then a month when I read the book and it was still an extreme waste of my time.

I just visited her website, she is clearly a noob. I got tired of blogs about blogging and books that teach you how to teach other people to make money online a looong time ago. REAL quality in today’s online environment is very scarce and every noob that knows what a title tag is thinks he/she is an SEO expert and starts making a make money blog. It’s making me sick. I can sympathize with you but guess what? Most blogs are like hers, full of useless info that doesn’t help people. However, a newcomer can’t see the difference between a good blog and a bad one. Think about it. Why do I KNOW your blog is good? Because I have experienced certain failures up until now, and I have some experience. A newcomer doesn’t.
Paul I think one of the really horrible things about our blogging community is the make money sector just rehas over rehash and people writing about things they should not.
You know I have said before what makes me good at what I do is I have had the long list of failures I have experienced everything that you folks will go through so might as well use me as that experience.

Joe, I don’t think you’ve quite grasped the point of the misspellings. We are most definitely not 12 years old. Our primary aim is to make money.
Were our primary aim to enjoy blogging and writing interesting, spelling and grammatically correct articles for our readers, then we would do that and not expect to make much money from it. That’s the way it is. Do one or the other, because they two do not mix.
Most of us here have learned this the hard way and are trying to set things straight, which is why we’re here.
You’ll figure it out in time, I’m sure.
It would be interesting if Caroline Middlebrook actually made a post asking her readers if:-
A. They want to learn how to make money online.
B. They want to read about someone making a hash of making money online and not actually learn anything useful.
Somehow I don’t think people are going to respond with the latter. Whatever her intentions are doesn’t really matter. It’s what people are expecting from her. If people expect to learn the techniques of making money on the internet then they are much better off reading blogger unleashed, courney tuttle and grizz’s blog.

Have you guys read the book? Right in front it says “I give the technical details of how to use built in features of WP to manage Adsense more easily but there is no information on how to use Adsense effectively” She doesnt even use Adsense on her blog.
I am just mystified at the harsh attacks. She states very clearly in her blog posts that she doesnt know what shes doing but if you would like to follow along with her while she learns you can. This is very appealing to beginners unlike some blogs like this which are so condescending to other people that are not exactly like them. Oh well, to each his own. I am done arguing.
Yes Joe, I read the book and did a review of it. My main problem with it was the title, “Money Making Niche Sites”, and some suggestions in it that are counter to creating a successfully monetized niche marketing blog. If she hadn’t used the “make money” hook in the title and stuck with just a “Noob’s Guide to WordPress” it wouldn’t have been as controversial.
The harsh attacks come from her being fully invested in the ‘Yaro/Chow’ school of blogging which means playing the nice guy who has the knowledge up front and milking your naive followers for cash behind the scenes or even being blatantly up front about it. It works a lot like Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) which some of us have a strong distaste for.

Good Vlog, but I think we are all now aware of what a noob Caroline is. Yes, I think she has in many eyes mislead people, but I think you have been a little too harsh on her. I read her blog on and off, just as I do with John Chow’s and others – but I take all of their writing with a pinch of salt.
@ Joe – doesn’t she direct you to a site on fishing that she setup using adsense and walk you through how to post etc, as well as the boo being entitled ‘make money with wordpress’ (or at least it was before the title was changed). She’s mislead people by ‘implying’ that she has been making money from adsense, or knows how to setup a niche blog and make money from it through adsense – I think that is the main thing that people have a beef with – the implication of being an authority.
Interesting video, but you know what’s really really irritating is when people can’t do a little bit of research. Hey Vic or should I pronounce it Vike? or Vich? Caroline is pronounced Caro-line not Caro-lyn.

The problem is that there are many thousands of people who waste months of their lives following blogs by the likes of Middlebrook and John Chow hoping they’re going to make money by following their advice. After several months of no results they end up quitting or hopefully find a blog like Vic’s.
Vic has been in a situation where he has been homeless and hadn’t eaten anything for days. He just hates to see people wasting their time and money on things he knows isn’t going to work.
By calling people a bitch he’s able to get attention and get people making money the way they should’ve from the start.
I have tried both methods of making money online and I can tell you that Vic’s methods win hands down. Skip the whole Middlebook crap and start making proper money that is going to put a roof over your head and food in your belly.

You know that should be the basis and how can you talk about something if you do not know it? It is sad.
I don’t blame Caroline for how she blogs, she’s just doing what she was taught.
I still get Yaro Starak’s feed and emails. But, I rarely open them anymore … because I KNOW that at least 75% of the time, it’s going to be soliciting me to buy something.
What’s funny/sad is, the majority of those 1800 people who subscribe to Caroline’s blog probably consider making $2000 a month as being “successful”.
Even a year into this, I’m still having to get used to the way that “make money” bloggers basically tell their readers straight up how they are going to make money off of them.
At least in network marketing, we make an effort to base our sales pitch on the potential of our prospect to make money themselves.
lol, I can’t imagine I’d recruit many people if I blogged about how I just need 3 more of you to sign up so that I can make the next pay level and receive a big bonus.
… yet, that’s almost exactly what I see on make money blogs almost every day.
And people are falling for it.
If you want to be really real Vic, you should be calling out all the dumbasses who buy Caroline’s stuff … as well as those who promote it to their readers.
My personal opinion is that there was more good information in the “Apendix2″ links at the end of Caroline’s wordpress ebook than there was in the text itself … yet many bloggers lent their good name to it. I didn’t understand it at the time, and I still don’t understand it now.

Let me just say, I’ve watched and read nearly every post over the last few months. I’m not an active commenter on your blog. But I am still a loyal follower, and am currently using the techniques you teach. To build several ideas.
I’m not working as quickly, and as efficiently as I probably should. But I am well on my way to improving.
Also, I agree that a lot of these people are scammers, and can’t make money outside of telling others how to “make money online”.
(Which I actually, don’t think is true, if these guys *or scammers* just used the techniques their using to push crap on the sheep in the “make money online” niche, to a “real” niche, they would make SO MUCH more, because it’s just one of the hardest niches out there.)
However, there is one point you made I wholeheartedly disagree with. You said, you can not make money online unless you know SEO or PPC. This is just flat out UNTRUE.
Before I ever read your blog, and Courts. I always thought SEO was beyond my grasp. I was PPC guy (and still am to a degree). But one of the other things I studied ever since I was in high school is:
Email/Relationship/List marketing. There are many people out there that use neither PPC OR SEO & are outside of the money making niche that make money with their “Lists”. With their loyal fan base.
Do not get me wrong, I am NOT talking about SPAM EMAIL. Most recently we can look at a product launch like Product Launch Formula 2.0, or Frank Kern’s Mass Control. Both of which made over a million $ (that’s a guess) using primarily email marketing.
Granted those two products/services were geared toward the internet marketing/make make money crowed. But supposedly they teach how to do things in your own specific niches.
I guess, all I’m saying is, even though I love nearly everything you say, and I completely agree with your tactics and techniques. I think it’s somewhat short sited to say that your way is the “only” way. Or the “best” way.
Keep on supplying the good info. And I’ll give you a testimonial soon of all the money I’m making. Thanks Vic!

I have to say that you and Court have really opened my eyes. You two are the only people that have laid out real scenarios and strategies that are recreatable by others. It took a while for it sink in but i think I am starting to come around to reality.
Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there, just like me, who want to make money online. They understand the concepts and know which direction they need to go in to accomplish their goals. They take the time to learn the information that was “available” at the time. Begin the process only to realize they were given a red herring.

It is one of my first visits to this blog. I visited by following a link from the grizzly blog. Both are great. The only thing I want to say about this particular post is lol. Aside from Vic’s approach to the whole Middlebrook situation, which I believe has great comedic value, I believe that what is being said is quite helpful. You should optimize this post with keywords, eye opener for new bloggers. Especially for new bloggers with small blogs and high aspirations. Anyhow, I really like this blog and I will definitely keep coming back to read more posts. By the way, your post is number 3 for keywords Caroline Middlebrook.

I have just found your blog through Grizzly Bear’s blog.
I have been subscribing to Caroline’s blog and enjoy reading her posts; I know she hasn’t been making a lot of money but she only started monetizing very recently; in fact I think she doesn’t even have Adsense on her blog but I am sure she would have made a bunch of Adsense money if she had had Adsense on it since last August.
I downloaded her free e-book but didn’t buy anything from it yet.
Her blog really helped me out in my first days but I do not follow her advice blindly, I like to think for myself a little and read different advices before I make a decision, this is why from now on, I will also subscribe to your blog as I am also interested in what you have to say (will just have to keep my kids away from the room or use headphones for your next videos because of all the “Bad Words”).
No, because you have indeed being reading her blog you really think she would had made tons of money from adsense.

Okay all I’m going to say about Caroline Middlebrook is that some things don’t add up.
I’m not going into ethics here because business ethics is a huge subject – to big to debate here.
Want I will say is that she started this last year knowing nothing, or very little about internet marketing. Yet after just a few months she was marketing her ebook as though she was an expert.
No one becomes an expert in so short a time. I have worked long and hard building up a reputation in my field as an expert, I’ve even written books (of the none ebook variety) on the subject and its taken me many years to be considered an expert within my profession (quality management).
Her own income stats shows that even now after eight or nine months she is still no expert but publicing herself as one with all her products.
Basically thats what I don’t like. It took me many hours graft offline to build my reputation, it’s wrong to see some people just appearing online and after a couple of months marketing themselves as some “guru” and asking to be paid for their “knowledge.”
Atleast people like Yaro Starak and John Chow put in the work to get to where they are now. Even Yaro Starak, who she seems to be following, advices not to blog about becoming a success as a blogger until you actually are.
From her own stats – she isn’t and probably with her business plan, it’s doubtful if she ever will be.
The thing I don’t get about Caroline Middlebrook or her blog is that she is not a make money online beginner.
I used to be subscribed and have read through her entire blog archives (ok I was a sucker I admit, but I’ve now reformed so that must count for something lol) and in a previous post she says she was in internet marketing in 2002. She used PPC back then instead of SEO, but then again this is what reminded me since you say you’re either an SEO guy or a PPC guy. Well she was a PPC and I don’t understand why now she has a blog which never mentioned PPC apart from that one time.
This is just one of the things that didn’t sit right with me, out of many things, I have to say.

I am sort of new guy in this field, but I happened to know a lot about “family” community, and you got the point Vic, in that kind of community, the deadliest guy is ussually “soft spoken” kind of guy. In the blogging world, is just the same. The deadliest scammer is mostly, the “soft spoken” one. Don’t get me wrong! mostly “soft spoken” people are OK, but when there’s a “hidden agenda” inside them, they are very hard to read. I’ve been scammed in the past (I’ve bought some garbage produts). I’ve been visited Yaro’s site for quite sometimes and very close to push the “pay” button.
I like your brute and honest style (a bit too harsh though), because in that vid’s about CM, you spoke with numbers, and have guts to challenge it publicly.
