True, thing is its an old domain so doesnt really make sense that its sandboxed? Someone said you can tell if youve been banned from google webmaster tools? Is that right? Thanks

I saw your section of the video that talks briefly about everything going on with my comment I made. And I agree with you on many of the points you made. The reasons I feel this situation is slightly different is because we're dealing with subdomains and he didn't give me a good comment.

I left a post in the contest forum about how Google treats subdomains. They reduce the likelihood that multiple subdomains can rank for one search result. So, since we're on the same TLD, its a different situation. If they want to drop their link to their own TLD, than I'm cool with that. I had said "feel free to drop links to your personal site"
I dropped this link in the forum:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/subdomains-and-subdirectories/

Matt says: "For several years Google has used something called “host crowding,” which means that Google will show up to two results from each hostname/subdomain of a domain name. That approach works very well to show 1-2 results from a subdomain, but we did hear complaints that for some types of searches (e.g. esoteric or long-tail searches), Google could return a search page with lots of results all from one domain. In the last few weeks we changed our algorithms to make that less likely to happen in the future."

So, since we're dealing with subdomains, I feel the rules are a little different.

Lastly, the guy who dropped the comment left two sentences. So, I feel like it was obvious he was just trying to get a link and compete. He didn't really give me enough content to make it worth it for me.

And I agree that you need friends in this business. I hope my comments didn't made people think I'm selfish, because that isn't the case. I'm join forces all day long outside of these competition blogs. When you deal with subdomains you're dealing with limited slots. The success of one subdoman hinders the success of another. If we're dealing with TLD's, your success won't hinder mine so much and we can work together.

I hope that helps clarify my reasons.

Paul,

A couple of things, if your site is a new domain, you could be sandboxed depending upon how much traffic you get.

Or, google results change all the time as they are constantly working on the search results. Give it a few hours to a couple of days. Much more beyond that and it's probably sandboxed.

Mmm, interesting. I'm in the same boat as Monika - I haven't been able to watch any of the live broadcasts and I'm far too busy with my own work to be able to give this contest the time that it probably needs.

Plus I don't have adsense, so I guess that fucks my chances right up the arse so wtf!

So knowing I can't possibly win, I can relax and concentrate on getting some authority and learning what Vic's teaching instead of worrying about all that other shit LMAO!!!

Anyway, bueno suerte (good luck) to everyone!

Hi Vic, quick question. Probably something youve been asked a million times before:) One of my sites has been slowly rising through the rankings for the last month, usually jumping down before going up. Few days ago it hit the #7 spot for the first time, then completely dissapeared. Im not really ranking for any of my keywords now, before when it went down i would be atleast on 2nd or 3rd page. So all types of things have been running though my head like the sites been banned for dup content or something or googles clearing out bans sites. Am i being way to paranoid or is this just part of the process?

Thanks Paul B

Not sure if this was in reply to my comment. I'm not mentioning anyone in particular though with my comment. Certainly not you Denise.
I just see a lot of general worry going on in the channel about people worrying about others linking too earlier, their link quantity, if they're posting too earlier. I just think everyone is worrying too much. Like Vic says to us all "don't over think things, just go get links".

And as always, I am not trying to be an ass, even if might come off that way via my text.

And my way of doing things isn't always the "right way", just "my way". All I said was: please don't waste your time anchoring my own keywords on my post. Wasn't trying to make a deal, just wanted to save people time.

It's always hard to express the exact nuance of what you're saying over the Internet.

I know a contest mixed with learning motivates some people, probably most people, and that's why Vic chose that format to teach people. I, and I'm probably in the minority in this, don't find a contest conducive to learning so that's why I decided to opt-out of the contest. I think that the competition will tend to outweigh the learning, particularly when you have people with highly competitive personalities involved.

There is a difference b/t the main index pointing to me and me pointing to 80+ other subdomains. Subdomains are treated as separate "spaces" on the net. In my quote I said "subdomains", I didn't say "the domain". Someone's competition blog and Vic's blog are not seen as the "same site" by Google. Vic's site has authority... the competition blogs that are showing up with nothing but bookmarking spam links are not authority sites yet.

Also, Vic said a while back there will be a contest page, so he's going to be link to me anyways. An incoming link from Vic is different than a outgoing link from me to other sites.

Lastly, a Nofollow link anchored for my name is very different than interlinking with dofollows and anchored keywords.

Its wordy, but that should answer your question. Also, this video is useful:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-friday-the-juice-is-loose

And what I said is far from being ad hominem imo. I addressed the issue and explained it, and didn't simply attack the person. And I'm not attacking Frank, but talking in general terms. I can explain my point well no matter who its against.

My frustration is not at Frank, he's a cool guy, but with people concerning themselves too much with what others are doing. My comment wasn't really directed just at frank, but was in general.

But if I'm coming off as an ass, it isn't intended. Being the net, I'm restricted to trying to express myself as best as I can via text.

The way I look at the contest is it's like college for blogging. This is like a final exam. For me there is no better learning than doing, and this contest fits the bill for me. I'm sure there's still a mountain of information I can learn from vic.

I doubt it will get ugly as the vast majority of folks here, in my opinion, are good natured friendly people.

Let's hope every last one of us makes some money and learns a few things.
